Artur Beul was born in Einsiedeln in 1915 and spent his youth together with his mother (Louise Treichler, 1881–1944) and his grandmother. His father Hermann Beul died when Artur was two years old. His grandfather was the painter Marius Beul. After attending the Einsiedeln Abbey School at the University of Freiburg and completing his studies at the University of Zurich, Beul studied as a middle school teacher. Since the war broke out shortly afterwards, the young teacher had to take over representations; First in 1940 in Willerzell am Sihlsee.

Because there were hardly any songs for the youth, Beul himself wrote songs with catchy melodies and child -friendly texts. So created u. Leaf Gotthard Flüged Bräme and Stägeli uf, Stägeli off . His first song was created a few years earlier: at the age of eighteen, he wrote In the sky it is stone Sternli Z’nacht that has become one of his best -known songs. When composing, Beul benefited his music knowledge, which he had previously acquired at the Conservatory in Zurich.

One day he met the singing trio siblings Schmid (with Klärli Schmid he was also engaged for a short time), which spent a few vacation days in Einsiedeln. The young singers who went to school at the time found his songs to be exactly suitable for them. They suggested to the young Artur Beul that he should hang up his teaching profession and go on concert tours with them as a composer and companion at the piano. The Trio Schmid And Artur Beul stayed together for ten years and were extremely successful; There were records on records for eighty songs. Since Beul worked for various publishers, he also wrote under the pseudonyms Frank Midi and Mac Dormant . [first]

Then the Trio Schmid received an invitation to the USA, which resulted in the separation from its composer. Beul had now built a house in Zollikon and also worked for other interpreters such as the Duo Martheli Mumenthaler-Vreneli Pfyl, for Vico Torriani, Lys Assia ( Rainpfeifer Sing Dein Song ), the Texas duo and Hans Albers ( Say how do you mean, sweet little one? ). During this time he met the German Lili-Marleen interpreter Lale Andersen, whom he married in 1949. He also composed numerous songs for her, including one of her favorite songs Roses bloom in our garden .

When Lale Andersen died in 1972, he moved to the south of France for ten years. In Cannes he painted pictures of the port and Provence and sold them to tourists. After ten years, Beul returned to Switzerland. Soon he met his second wife Pat Gysin (1920-2008), who worked on radio as a designer and announcer.

In addition to against a thousand songs, Beul composed the Mediterranean suite For orchestras, several marches, a small singing fair and countless instrumental pieces. Around 500 titles were recorded on recordings. His greatest success was After em of re-smense sunse , which was recorded in 1945 by Marthely Mumenthaler and Vrenely Pfyl. In the USA the song was under the title When a Swiss Boy goes calling to a Swiss Miss in June sung by the Andrews Sisters. Beul had thus succeeded in the first Swiss hit to get international fame. In addition to some others, this title was also sung by the Pfister siblings.

Artur Beul’s memories appeared as a book for his 80th birthday. [first] It bears the same title as its world success: After rain, sun shines .
