Sean Blanchard (Born March 29, 1978 in Greater Sudbury, Ontario) is a Canadian ice hockey player who played for the Grizzly Adams Wolfsburg in the German ice hockey league in the 2012/13 season.
Blanchard started his career in 1994 in the Canadian Junior League Ohl at the Ottawa 67’s. After his third season, he was selected as the best defender of his team at the NHL Entry Draft in 1997 by the Los Angeles Kings in the 4th round at 99th position. A year later, the left -wing shooter signed his first professional contract and played the following three years both in the East Coast Hockey League with three teams as well as in the American Hockey League at the Lowell Lock Monsters and in the International Hockey League at the Grand Rapids Griffins and the Manitoba Moose.
For the 2001/02 season, the Canadian decided to move to Europe, where he accepted a contract with the London Knights in the British Ice Hockey Superleague. The two years in England followed two years in Italy at SV Ritten. Blanchard spent the 2005/06 season in Switzerland at the ZSC Lions. Then he moved back to North America and played again in the Echl, this time at the Augusta Lynx. In addition, the defender played 13 games for Portland Pirates in the AHL and was able to convince with 9 points.
In 2007, Blanchard signed a contract with Iserlohn Roosters from the German Ice Hockey League, of which he initially committed as a try-out player for ten days, but was only licensed after three days due to positive training impressions. For the 2008/09 season, the Canadian switched to league competitor Hamburg Freezers, after only one year to the Frankfurt Lions. After the dissolution of the Lions in July 2010, Blanchard played for the Nuremberg Ice Tigers in the 2010/11 season. Since there was no contract extension in Nuremberg, Blanchard initially remained without a club in the next season until he was again under contract by the Iserlohn Roosters in December 2011. In August 2012, he signed a contract with the Grizzly Adams Wolfsburg.
After Blanchard had remained rather colorless in the season and could not provide any impulses, he was not offered a new contract at the end of the season. [first]
