The Landesblasorchester NRW Is a selection orchestra of the Volksmusikerbund NRW e.V. It consists of around 65 musicians and has existed since 1989.

The state associations Rhineland e. V. and Westfalen-Lippe e. V. merged in 1989 for the joint state association of North Rhine -Westphalia of the folk music association and decided to build a joint state wind orchestra. The state conductors Theo Aust and Hans-Paul Breuer took over this task and the orchestra had its first appearance in 1991 on the occasion of the first State Music Festival NRW in Geseke.

The further development of the state wind orchestra was then in the hands of Hans-Paul Breuer and Rita Vogt. In 1995, the orchestra, Renold Quade, succeeded in winning the orchestra after trial beams, the conductor and orchestra educator at the State Music Academy NRW e.V., Renold Quade.

As an association orchestra, the orchestra perceives representation tasks for the folk musician association NRW and, as a multiplier orchestra, promotes the musical developments of its member associations. The ensemble maintains musical traditions and contemporary currents of the concerts and entertaining music for large concert wind orchestras. Original compositions, premieres, but also editing of film music and musicals present a wide repertoire.

As a representative orchestra, it is represented with concerts for every state music festival of the Volksmusikerbund NRW. Furthermore, it takes over the association of the association for festive events, such as that of the Pro Musica sticker or the Zelter badge, the State Music Academy of North Rhine-Westphalia or anniversary festivals and concerts at various state garden shows and on state music days in North Rhine-Westphalia. Joint appearances with the State Spine Corps NRW complete the work in the Folk Musician Association of North Rhine -Westphalia.

A particular concern is the promotion of interdisciplinary cultural work through benefit and charity concerts in connection with other artistic performances. The state wind orchestra thus makes an important contribution to the cooperation of the various cultural associations inside and outside the State Music Council of North Rhine -Westphalia.

The chief conductor is the Dürener Renold Quade. He is a seminar leader for the conductor training at the State Music Academy NRW and is regularly active in music competitions, including as a federal judge. He demands high artistic quality and committed dedication from his orchestral musicians.

The State Blasorchestra North Rhine -Westphalia sets musical priorities and performs as a guest orchestra all over North Rhine -Westphalia. Events of international character are also part of the task profile of the orchestra.

The focus is on promoting young composers, especially from North Rhine-Westphalia. New orchestral works were z. B. focus of a special concert in the Spielbank Dortmund-Hohensyburg. The State Blasorchestra NRW has also premiered several times. The highlights were concerts with soloists such as Steven Mead (Euphonium), Frits Damrow (trumpet) and Oto Vrhovnik (saxophone).

The state wind orchestra has participated in various radio and television productions. As a concert partner of the WDR, the state wind orchestra is, for example, constant guest in the “wind turbines” (WDR 4) or at “Klinging NRW” with Gisbert Baltes on WDR television.

In 2002, the state wind orchestra, as the cultural ambassador of the state of North Rhine -Westphalia, went on a concert tour to the People’s Republic of China. Nine concerts between Beijing and Shanghai, including a. With the support of Volkswagen in the Ritz-Carlton/Shanghai, the program belonged to the program. The tour was completed with the CD production “Good News From China”.

In 2005, the orchestra undertook an internationally award -winning trip to the Czech Republic. In Prague, it was named overall winner in the national house at the International Festival of Brass Orchestras. In the WORLDGAMES 2005 sports program, the Landesblasorchester NRW played a total of over 20,000 spectators in the König-Pilsener-Arena Oberhausen and in the MSV Duisburg (MSV Arena) stadium at the final in American football.

The orchestra had further appearances at the celebrations for the 60th birthday of the state of North Rhine -Westphalia in Düsseldorf or in the Capital of Culture 2010.

In November 2006, the orchestra achieved 1st place in the 3rd nationwide scoring games for selection orchestras in Trossingen in the “Selection Orchestra at the state level” category and is recognized as the best selection orchestra.

At the turn of 2013/2014, the orchestra made a concert tour to China for the second time. The topic of the concert tour was mainly a classic New Year’s concert program under the inclusion of Chinese and German folk guidance. The seven concerts mainly took place in the Chinese province of Zhejiang. Places of the tour were Huzhou, Wenzhou, Ningbo, Lishui, Hangzhou, Shanghai and Beijing.

In 2000 the Society of Friends and Supporters of the State Blazing Orchestra NRW e.v. founded under a significant initiative by Josef Heithausen. The first managing director of the association was Otto Levermann. Leading cultural politicians of the North Rhine-Westphalian state parliament, Monika Brunert-Jetter, Elisabeth Koschorreck and Thomas Sternberg, were involved in the board of directors of the company, currently among them.
