Since then the U-Railway route between the subway stations Zoo and Alvalade was split into two own lines ( Blue line and Green Line ), the operating company planned Lisbon Metro – true to that Rede Expansion Plan 1999 (Plan for expanding the network until 1999) – to extend a line up to one of the two large train stations on the Tejoufer. Since 1998 the Green Line to the train station Sodré quay , since then the Blue line to the train station Santa Apolónia drive. The construction work for this began in 1997, but a great water slump in June 2000 near today’s subway station Terreiro do Paço And tightened security guidelines prevented timely completion. Therefore, the operating company of Metro Lisbon, the Lisbon Metro , only ten years after the beginning of the building, on December 19, 2007. [2] Overall, the building cost between Downstream and Santa Apolónia 299 million euros, 31 million euros more than planned. [3]

The architect Artur Artur Rosa was responsible for the Teriro do Paço train station. Due to the substrate, the train station is particularly deep, so that several escalators lead to the surface. João Vieira was responsible for the design, but he held back and only designed a large tile with colorful aislejos with the title Transparency II , which is located in the main hall of the train station. Otherwise, concrete and metal panels dominate that give the train station a cool coat of paint. [4] The architectural achievement received the highly doped Artchtiecture Prize Prémio Valmor de Arquitetura in 2007.

After the opening of the train station, one of the two customer centers of the metro from the subway station also moved Alameda to the train station Terreiro do Paço . As soon as the renovation of the ferry terminal has also ended [5] , there will be direct access from the train station to the ships.

Nine months after the opening of the train station, the operating company found that instead of the planned 25,000 passengers, only about 12,000 passengers per day use the train station. The Lisbon Metropolitan, EP This attributes this to the limited ferry operation of the Transtejo between Caxias and Lisbon and the fear of passengers from a water slump – as is the case with the construction work. [6]

There are switching options for the Carris bus and tram lines at the underground station and the ferry ships of the Transtjo.
