After graduating from high school, he initially studied architecture at the Technical University of Berlin-Charlottenburg, but after his return from captivity, however, turned to an activity as a press artist. Through orders for the design of grading title sheets, he came into contact with the music industry towards the end of the 1940s and was soon suggested to write the first texts (from 1948). Brattke did not tie to a record company, rather he wrote for his favorite interpreters like Cornelia Froboess – Electrola (20 texts) Peter Kraus – Polydor (14), Vico Torriani – Decca (10) or Nana Mouskouri – Fontana (9).
