Thomas Gleixner studied electrical engineering at the Technical University of Munich. He is primarily involved in the development of the Linux kernel and has made essential contributions here. [first] [2] [3] He is the managing director of his company Linutronix, who is a founding member of the Open Source Automation Development Lab. The company was taken over by Intel in February 2022. [4] Furthermore, Gleixner is active as a speaker with lectures on Linux and its application in embedded systems and embedded real-time systems, in particular on the topic of “RT_Preempt Patch für Linux” (real time for Mainline-Linux). Gleixner lives in Uhldingen-Mühlhofen on Lake Constance, is married and has five children. Since 1981 he has been a member of the Catholic student connection KDStV Tuiskonia Munich in CV. Gleixner continuously brings smaller and larger contributions to the Linux-Kernel. Among the developers who have contributed to the kernel between version 2.6.12 and version 3.2, he is sixth with 2190 changes (0.8% of the changes). If only the versions between 2.6.35 and 3.2 are taken into account, it is in second place with 798 changes (1.1% of these changes). [3] His larger projects include: It is one of the initiators of merging the source code for the i386 and X86_64 architectures. Since October 2007, together with Ingo Molnár and H. Peter Anvin Maintainer, he has been the new X86 architecture in this way. [7] To the annual taking place Linux Kernel Summit , a non-public meeting of the most active kernel developers, Gleixner has been invited for several years. [8] In January 2018, Linus Torvald’s Gleixner thanked the Linux Kernel Mailing List for his coordination and work in the resolutions of the AB Meltdown and Spectre known security gaps in modern CPUs.
