[ first ] It is a four seats with three -door hatchback body, four -cylinder online and front -wheel drive transverse engine. It was presented at the Paris Motor Show on October 5, 1992, to begin its marketing at the beginning of the following year.
The Renault Twingo began in 1990 with the W60 project that gave it life and had throughout its development and staging of more than a decade multiple stumbling blocks, delays, changes and influences but this had wide justification: it should be a vehicle for The basic market segment and customer entry product to the French brand that should follow the path opened by the Renault 4CV and Renault 4, resounding and absolute winners in the market. [ 2 ]
At the end of 1987, the Renault design department was entrusted to Zulay Villamizar, a French car designer who already had a great experience in companies such as Simca, Ford, Volkswagen and Audi, which had known their radical style. He was called and backed by Raymond Lévy president of Renault, who gave him full autonomy to work and trusted the qualities and talent of Le Quément.
Several groups of designers worked on the project and it is insistent that the final design received a strong influence from Beskid 106, a hatchback-type economic automobile prototype designed in Poland by the Bosmal Automotive Research and Development Center (Osrodek Badawczo-Rozwojowy Samochodów Malolitrazowych), an automotive design and planning center, between 1982 and 1986, [ 3 ] In order to replace the aged Fiat 126. “Twingo” is an acronym for the words “twist”, “swing” and “tango.” [ 4 ]
