Marcos Paulo Alves (Born May 11, 1977 in Doresópolis) is a former Brazilian football player.
Marcos Paulo started his professional career in 1996 at the Brazilian major club Cruzeiro Belo Horizonte. From 1996 to 1997 he was only used in the regional league and in the Cup. From 1998 he was also used in first division games and won a regular place. In the following years he won the Copa Libertadores, Copa do Brasil and the Copa Mercosur with Cruzeiro. For this purpose, he was convened simultaneously due to strong performance in the U-23 and Brazilian A-national team.
In 2001 he was considered a great midfield talent and had made a name for himself internationally. So the logical step to Europe followed.
For the time being, we went to Italy on a loan base. There he found himself in the relegation battle, which he was not used to from Brazil. Marcos Paulo had great adaptation difficulties and found it difficult to get into the team. At the end of the season, however, his performance stabilized and at times he was able to get a regular place. However, he could never meet the expectations placed in him. At the end of the season, Udinese managed to stay in the league with a point lead. Marcos Paulo played fourteen games, and he was able to score a goal. Udinese did not decide to draw the high purchase option for Marcos Paulo.
For the 2002/03 season there was a further loan to Europe. This time to Portugal to Sporting Lisbon.
At Sporting he had the two strong defensive midfielder Paulo Bento and Rui Bento. He did not manage to push one of the two out of the team and only played three league games. Frusted, he returned to Brazil after only half a year.
Back in Brazil he moved to Grêmio Porto Alegre. The traditional association was in the middle of the relegation battle and urgently searched for players who could stabilize the defensive. Marcos Paulo immediately fit into the team and played fifteen solid games. In the end, the relegation could be celebrated.
For the 2003/04 season, he moved to Europe again. This time to Israel to Maccabi Haifa. Haifa had missed the championship title in the 2002/03 season only because of the poorer goal difference and now took a lot of money in the hand to celebrate the title.
He hit straight away and subsequently formed a safe team axis together with đovani Roso and Yaniv Katan. In the end, he was able to celebrate the win of the championship.
Despite the prospect of being able to play Champions League, he then switched back to Guarani FC. After half a year of relegation battle, he decided on the Ukraine adventure and signed a well -endowed two -year contract with Metalist Kharkiv [first] . The change turned out to be a misunderstanding for both sides. Marcos Paulo only played a game for the Ukrainians and moved back to Portuguesa again in the summer. There he once again established himself as a regular player and was able to celebrate the promotion to Brazilian series A in 2007.
In January 2008 he moved to Yokohama FC in exchange against the player Catatau to Japan. When the club descended from the J. League at the end of the season, it switched to Shimizu S-Pulses within the league [2] in which he is the undisputed regular player.
With the Brazilian U-23 team, he confidently achieved the qualification for the Olympic Summer Games 2000. There he also found himself in the final squad, who unhappily retired in the quarter-finals in the game against the later gold medalist after extension.
In April 1999 he made his debut against the USA for the A-National team.
In the 22nd minute he succeeded in scoring for the meantime 2: 0. The game became a shooting festival and ended 7-0.
He played a total of 1999 and 2000 eighteen international matches in which he scored three goals. After leaving the Olympics in September 2000, he was no longer called to the national team.
