Finale [ Edit | Edit the source text ]

The Englishman Tony Meo had already won the tournament in 1981 and was the second player after John Spencer, who had made it to the final since the first edition of the tournament in 1979. On his way to the final, he had clearly won against Warren King and later defeated John Virgo and Jimmy White to three, so that he had moved into the final. While Virgo defeated defending champion Tony Knowles in a new edition of the previous year’s end-game, White had won in advance by white-water and in the decider.

The second player in the final was the Australian John Campbell, who was the third Australian in the final of this tournament after Ian Anderson’s victory in 1979 and after the final defeat Eddie Charlton in 1982. Charlton started the tournament with a clear victory over Alex Higgins and continued his winning streak with a narrow victory over local hero Eddie Charlton. Finally, with the help of a 6: 4 victory over John Parrot, he had succeeded in entering the final.

There are no precise records of the final itself. It is only known that Tony Meo played two century breaks of 134 and 103 points during the game and ultimately won the game with a 7-2 victory and thus also the tournament. [first] Since John Spencer was only able to win a final of his two final participants, Meo is the only player who Australian Masters could win twice. [2]

During the tournament, three players played a total of six century breaks. [3]
