The Commarco GmbH With the headquarters in Hamburg, a German subsidiary of the international advertising company WPP Group is with activities in the field of communication and marketing services. The company was created in 2001 [3] As an independent holding company after the establishment of the advertising agency Scholz & Friends in 1981 by Jürgen Scholz (creation), Uwe Lang (advice) and Michael Menzel. In addition to Scholz & Friends, the group also includes the agencies Blumberry, Celsius GKK, Lowe Germany, GKK Dialoggroup, Deepblue Networks, Resource, UV Interactive Entertainment and United Visions. In 1985 the founders sold the agency to the International Network Bates – which was sold in the same year to Saatchi & Saatchi or Cordiant. Scholz retired from the management in 1992.

In 2003, around 40 managers acquired ownership of the company through a management Buy-Out together with the private equity investor cognetas. The small investors were resigned using squeeze-out.

On April 19, 2011, Commarco announced that the WPP-Holding Commarco-after successful antitrust permit-will take over one hundred percent. Both sides have agreed not to disclose the purchase price. [5]

In 2019, the group had around 1900 employees at 30 locations with offices in Hamburg, Berlin, Frankfurt, Düsseldorf and offshoot in many major cities in Europe (e.g. Athens, Belgrade, Budapest, Kiev, Madrid, Milan, London, Paris, Prague , Stockholm, Zurich and Basel). Scholz & Friends works with Lowe Worldwide as part of a strategic alliance. Lowe Worldwide represents Scholz & Friends in all international markets in which the agency group is not represented, especially in Asia and North and South America.

Their turnover was around 137 million euros in 2008 (last published figures).
