Givisiez lies up 629 m ü. M. , 3 km west northwest of the cantonal capital Freiburg (air line). The village extends slightly over the southern slope of the valley murder of the Tiguelet stream , on the western outskirts of Freiburg, in the Molasse hull country of the Freiburg Mittelland.

Of the residents, 73.1% are French -speaking, 14.5% German -language and 2.7% speak Italian (as of 2000). The population of Givisiez was 151 inhabitants in 1850, in 1900 to 193 inhabitants. After a rapid growth of the population until 1910 (450 inhabitants), the population subsequently returned (1940 still 298 inhabitants). A distinctive population growth has been recorded since then, especially during the 1980s and 1990s.

Today Givisiez offers around 3,400 jobs. With 0.5% of the workers who are still employed in the primary sector, agriculture has only a marginal status in the employment structure of the population. About 20% of the employed people work in the industrial sector, while the service sector unites around 80% of the workers (as of 2001).

Givisiez is the location of large distribution centers and shopping centers. In the municipality, companies in the construction and transport industry, the advertising industry, information technology, wine stores, graphic studios, cleaning companies and manufacturers of sporting goods are represented. Further jobs are available in retail, in the administration and numerous service companies. Givisiez also has sports facilities, a large school center (expanded in 1992) and through cultural institutions, including the Théâtre des Osses that has been based in the village since 1990 [5] .

In recent decades, the village has also developed into a residential community. The new residential areas are located on the plateau between the old village center and the valley with the A12 motorway. The Givisiez settlement and commercial areas have grown almost complete today with those of the neighboring communities of Freiburg, Granges-Paccot and Corminboeuf.

The community is very well developed. It is located on the main road from Freiburg via Grolley to Payerne. The next connection to the A12 motorway (Bern -Vvey) is around 2 km from the town center. The somewhat remote train stop is served by the S-Bahn trains of the Freiburg-Murten-Neuenburg and Freiburg-Payerne lines. The car bus lines of Publics Fribourgeois Transports ensure the fine distribution in public transport, which operate the routes from Freiburg to Givisiez, Corminboeuf and Domdidier. Until 1793, the neighboring town of Granges-Paccot belonged to the Givisiez community. After the collapse of the Ancien Régime (1798), the village was part of the Freiburg district during the Helvetik and the following time before it was incorporated into the Saaneb district with the new cantonal constitution in 1848.

A merger of Granges-Paccot, Givisiez, Corminboeuf and Chésopelloz was under the name until 2014 „2C2G“ In preparation – the new place should Englisbourg Heissen (after the Englisberg family, which worked in all four locations). The parish church of Saint-Laurent is essentially due to the 13th century. The church received its current shape in the new building in 1777 and in the enlargement in 1936. In the old town center there is the Affry family’s castle, which was built in 1539 and experienced greater changes in the 17th century. It has a square stair tower, cross stick window and a portico. Today the castle houses an old-age and nursing home. In Givisiez there are also the Boccard Castle from the 17th century and another house of control of the Affry family, which was built in 1703.
