Hamgyŏ-Pukto (Nord-Hamgyŏng) is a province in North Korea. It was created in 1896 at the division of the province of Hamgyŏng-Do in Hamgyŏng-Pukto and Hamgyŏng-Namdo. The capital of the province of Hamgyŏng-Pukto is Ch’ŏngjin. 2.3 million people live in the province (census 2008). [first]

Hamgyŏng-Pukto borders the People’s Republic of China and Russia in the north, in the east to the Japanese Sea, in the southwest to the province of Hamgyŏng-Namdo and in the west to the province of Ryanggang-Do.

The HwasŏNG and Haengyŏng internment camps are located in the province. About 60% of the Koreans fled to South Korea come from this province. [2]

In October 2006, the first North Korean nuclear waving ignition was carried out in the south of the province. There were initially different information about the exact place of the experiment. [3] [4] [5]

At the end of August 2015 there were severe floods in the province.

The province of Hamgyŏng-Pukto is divided into three cities and twelve counties. In 1993 the city of Rajin ( The bread ; Rajin City ; Luojin ) and the district of Sŏnbong ( Sŏnbong-gun ; Vanguard ; Pioneer ) Dealed from the province of Hamgyŏng-Pukto and merged into Rajin-Sŏnbong, a city under the central administration of the government. 2000 is the city in Rasŏn ( Rasŏn Chik’alshi ; Rasun ; Luojian municipality ).
