The 2. Ice hockey world championships of the U18 women The international ice hockey federation IIHF was the ice hockey world championships of 2009 in the age group of the Unter-Achtzei-year-olds (U18). Between December 28, 2008 and January 10, 2009, 13 national teams took part in the two tournaments of the top division and the Division I.
The world champion was the second time the United States team, which was able to conquer the arch -rivals from Canada 3-2 in the final after extra time. The German team ended the tournament with the sixth place in the top division, Switzerland had to start relegation to division I through the last place in the top division. Austria was fourth and thus penultimate in Division I.

The top division’s U18 World Championship took place in the German city of Füssen from January 5 to 10, 2009. The games were in the arena of the Federal Performance Center for Ice Hockey and curling (3,691 places) and the neighboring Halle in (1,354 places).
Eight national teams took part, which play in two groups of four teams each. The United States secured the world championship title with a 3-2 win after extra time via Canada. It was the second title win for the Americans.

After the group games of the preliminary round, the two groups of group and seconds qualified directly for the semi -finals. The group third and fourth played around places 5 to 8.

For the first time, a tournament of Division I was held at the U18 women after only a qualification tournament for the World Cup last year. This was held in Chambéry, French at the turn of 2008/09. The games took place in the Patinoire de Chambéry Métropole with 1,200 seats. The winner of the tournament consisting of five participants rose to the A group, while the last place of the A group relegated to Division I.
