King Drosselbart is a German fairy tale film by Sibylle Tafel from 2008, which is based on the fairy tale of the same name by the Brothers Grimm. The film was created as part of the fairytale film series Six in a prank that first broadcast the first German television in the 2008 Christmas program. It is a production of the children’s film production company.

Princess Isabella von Geranium swims happily in the “forbidden lake”, which is located on the border with the hostile neighboring country, while her maids desperately look for them. The man who surprised Princess Isabella am See is Prince Richard. He tells his sister Maximiliane about his encounter with the princess from the Kingdom of Geraniums. The sister points out that her fathers are hostile to each other. Prince Richard, however, raves about how “beautiful and lovingly” the princess is and wants to go to the bridal show. His sister thinks that she will accompany him to his protection.

In the Kingdom of Geraniums, the princess locks herself into her room after visiting the clothesmaker and lets her father and the kiln waiting in front of the door. She refuses to receive the noble people around her free. When her father lets the door open, the princess hangs on a braided, braided bed sheet after a failed escape attempt. The opposing princess has no choice but to marry the playman. When she learns that the big forest, the green meadow and the beautiful city of “King” throttle beard belong, she regrets not taking him as a man.

From now on, the spoiled princess has to get used to life in a simple hut without a servant, and she also has to make a living with work. When her husband leaves the hut on weekdays, she goes to the market and then to an inn in which she wants to be pampered. Since she has no money, the landlords and the tailor in the house, in which she ordered a new dress made of the finest Chinese silk and new shoes from Italian veal leather, are more than upset. The princess does not know and flee. Prince Richard, who has followed the events, throws a bag of gold to the feelings.

For inexplicable reasons, the princess always runs in a circle when she retreated and finally plunges into a pit unconscious. Later she is found by her husband and cared for at home. The next morning the playman continues again and the princess asks him to bring sweet donuts with them because they would make them healthy. After talking to his sister about it, he points out that this is a trick and advises him to bring bitter medicine to him. In the evening he brings medicine, which, according to Isabella’s statement, would already work from a distance. Again healthy, the princess must also contribute her part to housework.

After unsuccessful attempts in basket braids and other things, the Spielmann tries to trade pots and jugs on the market. In the meantime, Richard intends to educate the princess and thus free from the poor situation when he also looks at how she deals with an older dealer, he rejects this again. The princess can achieve initial successes on the market. The film was filmed in April and May 2008 in Braunfels Castle near Wetzlar, in Ronneburg near Hanau, in Büdingen Castle, Wilhelmshöhe Castle in Kassel and in Reinhardswald in northern Hesse. The first broadcast took place on December 25, 2008.

The original fairy tale was changed partly. From the infallible king’s son there became a prince that his sister, which was not in its original, advises.

Jan van Weyde, who has taken on a small role as a prince in this production, who has taken on Isabella, is married to the actress Jasmin Schwier, who plays the role of Isabella. Ken Duken, who plays King Drosselbart, is married to Marisa Leonie Bach, who plays one of the princess’s maids.

The first called up his viewers to vote on the six most popular films of the fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm, which ran in series six on a prank from 2008 to 2011.
