Rolf Sethe (Born April 22, 1960 in Witten) is a German lawyer. He is a professor of private, commercial and commercial law at the University of Zurich.

Sethe took off his Abitur at the Aldegrever Gymnasium in Soest in 1980 and studied law and history from 1980 to 1986 at the Eberhard Karls University Tübingen. In 1986/87 he studied at the London School of Economics and Political Science and acquired the conclusion of a Master of Law (LL.M.). From 1987 to 1990 he completed the legal clerkship at the Tübingen district court. In 1990 he completed the second state examination. In 1994 the doctorate followed, in 2002 the habilitation with Heinz-Dieter Assmann in Tübingen. Afterwards, Sethe was a chair at the Free University of Berlin and the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg. He rejected a call to the Bergische University of Wuppertal, and he accepted a call to the University of Halle-Wittenberg. [first] There he was appointed C4 professor for civil law, European private law, commercial and commercial law in 2003. In 2007 he was awarded the Ars Legendi Prize for excellent university teaching.

In the summer semester of 2007 he received a call to the University of Regensburg, which he refused. [2] However, he accepted a call to the University of Zurich. With effect from August 1, 2008, he was appointed professor for private, commercial and commercial law. [3] In 2010, he rejected a call as Vice President Teaching and Dean of Graduate Studies and the founding dean of a legal faculty of the Zeppelin University of Friedrichshafen. [4] In 2011, the University of Zurich awarded him the award for good teaching. [5] In 2012 he rejected a call to the University of Tübingen. [6] In 2015 he was awarded the Credit Suisse Award for Best Teaching. [7]
