Uckerath is crossed by the B8, which will soon go into the A 560 towards Bonn. Due to the high through traffic, a bypass has been under discussion for decades.

The second church was also consecrated to St. John the Baptist.

The church, which was first mentioned in 1131, was replaced by a new building in 1160. In 1898 the three -aisled main building of this second church was demolished, the tower of the old church was preserved. The basement was provided with windows and converted into a mourning chapel. In 1955 it was prepared as a memory chapel for the dead of the Second World War. On October 5, 1968, the landmark of Uckerath collapsed. Leftover walls were included in a new cemetery chapel.

The new church, a three -aisled, neuromanic basilica with a transept and built -in west tower, was blessed on October 30, 1892. The construction plans were already presented by the Cologne architect August Carl Lange from 1878 to 1882 and only realized after his death. The approaching front in World War II added serious damage to the Church. On March 11, 1945, several grenades hit the nave, on March 19 the upper part of the tower was destroyed. Further impacts hit the left aisle on March 23. A fire destroyed the roof structure and the organ stage. Soon the service was held back in the ruins. In 1946 the ship received a roof and until 1952 the final repair took place. The tower was partially removed and provided with a new helmet. In 1959 the church also received two new bells, in 1978 a church tower clock and a third bell from the Mark in Brockscheid. [13] The church windows were mostly designed by the Cologne artist Manfred M. Ott. [14]

Pastor Krupp [ Edit | Edit the source text ]

The Reformation in Uckerath is due to a pastor Krupp. He preached many years after the Catholic faith since 1573, but then (with his community) changed to the reformed faith. Shortly afterwards he married his housekeeper. The monks from the Bödingen monastery caused a counter -reformation and moved pastor Krupp and thus his community again to the Catholic faith. After the death of the pastor Krupp (around 1617), the monks of Bödingen took over the church in Uckerath to set the Catholic faith.

Uckerather pulpit murder [ Edit | Edit the source text ]

This was not only the case in Uckerath. Notes like In 1623 the churches Uckerath and Blankenberg were re -accepted are reminiscent of a war -like state. The Uckerather still tell an example of this today, the so -called “Uckerather Kanzelmord”. Since the Bödinger monk was late for the service, a Protestant hiking preacher from Altenkirchen rose the pulpit and began preaching the new gospel. When the monk arrived, he dragged the counter -speaker from the pulpit with helpers and closed him in front of the church with a hatchet. After that hardly performed Protestants in Uckerath.

post war period [ Edit | Edit the source text ]

However, their number grew again through immigration and war refugees. After the Protestant community of Eitorf struck for a long time, a separate Protestant church was inaugurated in 1954.

In 1828, eight Jews were counted in the mayor’s office in Uckerath. Nevertheless, Uckerath was 1864 Special synagogenic And is also responsible for the care of the Jewish citizens in Eitorf until they were able to enforce their own community. In 1887 the Uckerather synagogue community was merged with the Geistinger community.
