At the end of 1924, Hugo Mezger, owner of a photo and radio business in Stuttgart, took over the Württemberg Radio-Society mbh in Stuttgart, founded a year earlier. In the same year the first radio receivers were under the brand name Self brought on the market. The company itself was only in 1956 in Only radio gmbh renamed. From 1936 Wega Superhets was produced. In 1946 a Wega Allstrom-two-circuit recipient was developed, which was built around 15,000 times. Dieter Motte, a son -in -law in Mezgers, took over the management line. The four-circle all-current superstuper built in 1949 Regina was successful. In 1952/1953 Wega moved into a new building in Fellbach. In the 1950s and 1960s, Wega became more important. From 1965 Wega had radio devices designed by external design studios. Verner Panton designed a cube-like radio record player combination, which was also available in the color orange, [2] die „Stereobar 3300“ (1969–1971). [3] In 1969 Wega commissioned Hartmut Esslinger’s studio just founded with the design of the devices. Cooperation with Esslinger Design existed until the early 1980s [4] And produced a number of exceptionally designed radio equipment and television devices. [5] For example, Wega had a similar status for some time as the company in Kronberg in Taunus Braun, which had been committed to Hans Gugelot and later Dieter Rams of good form since 1955. The devices designed by Hartmut Esslingen were more fashionable than the strictly rationalistic brown design. The color TV color 3020 and the compact system concept 51k , for which a special base was available, [6] [first] were included in the constant exhibition of the Museum of Modern Art in New York. [7] Around 1975, quadrophony receivers also belonged to the program. [8] [9]

[twelfth] From 1998 to 2005 Sony marketed television equipment, also in LCD technology, [13] [14] and back projection devices [11] Under the Wega brand, whereby a connection to the Stern Wega, which is also designated with Vega, was also established, see also the Sony-Wega logos. [15] In 2001 the FD Trinitron Wega series was the best -selling television model in the USA. [16] By 2003, over 40 million devices were sold worldwide. [17] Wega was replaced by Bravia with the introduction of the LCD flat screens at the end of 2005. [18] [19]
