Yücel İldiz trained İskenderunspor at the beginning of his career. His next coaching station followed at Hatayspor six years later. This was followed by short terms of office: Diyarbakırspor, Adanaspor, Adana Demirspor, Şanlıurfaspor and Malatyaspor. During this time he worked again several times for Hatayspor and Diyarbakırspor.

In the 2000/01 season, İldiz had his first great success as a coach. With a 4-2 win after penalty shooting in the play-off final, his team managed to secure the last promotion place and to play in the Süper Lig from now on. He rose from the 3rd league to the 2nd division in the 2004/05 season. With 17 wins in a row, his team set a new record in the 3rd division. After three years in Ordu, he went to Samsunspor and then back too orduspor. Both seasons were rather unsuccessful.

At the beginning of the 2009/10 season, İldiz signed Karabükspor with the second division team. In the first year he managed to climb into the Süper Lig with carabükspor. In his first Süper Lig year with a carabükspor, the season ended in 9th place. The 2011/12 season started badly for his team. There were six defeats in the first ten games and 16th place was taken, which is why İldiz resigned in Karabük after two years.

For the 2012/13 season, the experienced trainer agreed with the second division club Karşıyaka SK. But before the season started, İldiz quit his contract. The reason for the termination was that the player obligations requested by the trainer were not made. [first]

For the season, Ern took over the second division club Adana Demirspor. After the 12th matchday, İldiz resigned from his post as the chief coach of Adana Demirspor. [2]

For the 2015/16 season he took over from TFF 1. Lig the promoted Yeni Malatyaspor. According to a disappointing start of the season from both the club’s perspective and from their own perspective, İldiz ‘contract was terminated after mutual agreement in October 2015. [3]

At the end of December 2015, he was hired as head coach for the second time in his career at the second division club Karabükspor. At the end of the season he led the team to the runner -up championship and thus again to Süper Lig. After this success he left the club again.

In November 2016 he took over the second division club Giresunspor. With this club he played for the championship and thus the direct promotion to the Süper Lig and missed it in the last days of the game. Instead, he qualified with Giresunspor for the play-offs of the 1st lig, in which the last and promoted of the knockout system was determined. Here he and his team failed in the semi -finals to Eskişehirspor. He received no contract extension for the new season and was replaced by Metin Diyadin. In September 2017, he was presented as a new trainer at Eskişehirspor.

At Eskişehirspor, the contract was terminated prematurely in April 2018. After a six -month break, İldiz signed Denizlispor in the ambitious league rival in October 2018. [4] In 24 encounters he only lost a game with Denizlispor, so that İldiz with the team was able to celebrate the championship of the TFF 1st LIG 2018/19 and the promotion to the Süper Lig.

In the Süper Lig, the team began with a 2-0 home win against last year’s champion Galatasaray Istanbul, followed by another 2-0 win against Antalyaspor. In the following five games, he was unable to win in, so DenizliSpor after the seventh matchday and the 5-1 defeat against Malatyaspor announced the dismissal İldiz ‘.
