The origins of Textron go to the Special Yarns Corporation back in Boston, which was founded in 1923 by the then 27-year-old Royal Little. At the beginning of the Second World War, the company was as Atlantic Rayon Corporation Known and won great orders for parachute production. When the military orders decreased in 1943, civil products were increasingly manufactured and the company in Textron renamed. In 1952 Little decided to diversify business. In 1953 the Burkart Manufacturing company, a manufacturer of car seat pads. In the next few years, Homelite, a chainsaw manufacturer, acquired the car supplier CWC, which, among other things, produced camshafts, and several other companies. In addition, in 1960 the helicopter manufacturer Bell Helicopter and the Golf Mobil producer E-Z-GO. Little then retired, sales had now grown to $ 383 million. His successor G. William Miller continued the strategy. The last textile company was sold in 1963. In the following years, Textron u. the snowmobile manufacturer Polaris and the venture capital company American Research and Development. Miller resigned in 1977 after he was appointed chairman of the Federal Reserve by Jimmy Carter. He later took over the office of Secretary of the Treasury, the American finance minister. In 1984 the attempt by an enemy takeover of the Texron Group failed by the small holding company Chicago Pacific Corporation. In order to make such attempts more difficult in the future, Textron acquired the mixed group AVCO in 1985, a similar company like Textron itself. The company was now too big for an easy takeover. Since they were highly indebted, Textron lost competitiveness and was forced to sell some smaller participations. In 1989 James Hardymon took over the corporate management. Under him, the aircraft manufacturer Cessna was bought in 1992, while many parts of the company that were not belonging to the core business were repelled. From now on, Textron focused on aircraft, flight technology and car delivery. The merger of company parts created larger group companies, including Textron Automotive Company and Textron Fasting Systems. In Germany, the Bauer & Schaurt company (inventor of the Bus-Bystems) was part of the group from 1996 to 2006. In 1998 Textron took over the British company David Brown. At this point, Textron already implemented 9.68 billion euros with 64,000 employees. Arctic Cat was taken over by Textron on March 6, 2017.
