Stade Rennais FC is also engaged in the Coupe de France.

In the offseason, Stade Rennais does not know a major upheaval, Pierre Garcia remaining in particular in place. The workforce remains relatively stable, despite the departures of Zlatarić and merchant, who had lost his place as a holder. Recruitment is based on players from Brittany and more generally from the Great West, only Miodrag žVivaljević (Lyon) and Didier Dufour (Thonon-les-Bains) actually being an exception among the notable reinforcements. Some value players arrive, like the young Alain Doaré, the versatile defender Bruno Steck (he will occupy a midfielder at the end of the season [ first ] ), the Guingampais striker Guy Stéphan or the midfielder Christian Zajaczkowski. On the other hand, the SRFC fails in the recruitment of the Polish Kazimierz KMIecik, quadruple top scorer in his national championship: his country does not allow him to expatriate before his 30th anniversary, and KMIecik will then celebrate his 29 spring [ 2 ] .

Despite these reinforcements, the start of the season is catastrophic. Combining defeats, the Rennes remain confined to the relegation area, and even occupy the last place until the thirteenth day. The main explanation of these bad results is according to Pierre Garcia the bad luck, the Rennes coach refuting to the passage of any bad will of his team [ 2 ] . Despite this worrying sporting situation, the Rennes municipality continues to support the club, granting it again substantial subsidies [ 2 ] .

In November, the situation improved, and the SRFC begins a Homeric go back to the ranking. At the end of the month, which marks the end of the first leg, the club has just chained five games without defeat and occupies twelfth place. This return of flame is not undermined by the serious injury to the menis of Houssaine Anafal [ 2 ] , which will put the Moroccan on the touch until the end of the season. In mid-February, after a series of eleven matches without defeat, fifth place is reached. In its crazy comeback, the Rennaise team even paid the luxury of going to beat the Brest leader on their lawn (1 – 0), maintaining the hope of a return to play the climb in D1. Unfortunately, a blow of soft in March comes to annihilate all hope of this order.

Also quickly eliminated from the Coupe de France by Paris Saint-Germain in thirty-two finals, the Rennes players finished the season in a good fourth place, which leaves some regrets regarding the progress of the season. Satisfaction despite everything: the Rennes reserve team is crowned French champion of division 4, beating in the final its counterpart from the Toulouse FC (2 – 1, 2 – 1).

This is the most common training in the league.
