Pierrot Co.,Ltd. ( Piero Co., Ltd. , Kabushiki Gaisha Piero ? ) , also known as studio Pierrot ( Studio Piero ? ) , is a studio of Japanese film and animated series founded in May 1979 PAR YūJI Nunokawa et d’Anciens Members Du Studio tatsunoko dont Hisayuki Toriumi et mamoru Oshii. Its name, Pierrot, comes from Japanese clown ( Piero ) which means Clown . This word is derived from French Pierrot , which is a type of clown of the Art commedy . The Pierrot studio has long specialized in the magical girl with successful series like Creamy, merveilleuse Creamy , Fancy Lala or more recently Tokyo Mew Mew . But since the early 2000s, the studio has turned more towards more shōnen as Great Teacher Onizuka , Bleach , HIKARU NO GO , Beelzebub or NARUTO . After finishing his studies, Yūji Nunokawa works for several studio including Mushi Production and especially Tatsunoko, where he was a host and director. In April 1977 , he formed a group of directors with Mitsuo Kaminashi (and) and Hiroko Tokita. They start their activities in an apartment in Kichijoji in Tokyo [ 4 ] . Regarding the origin of the name of the company, Nunokawa would have chosen the name according to a circus group which he saw at the Sannō festival (and) during his childhood and which left him a strong impression [ 5 ] . Following his work on Maya the Bee , the Gakken company commanded him a new production in 1979: The wonderful trip of Nils Holgersson to the land of wild geese . It is on this occasion that Nunokawa created a real animation studio to then train the Studio Pierrot Co., LTD. ( Studio Piero Co., Ltd. ? ) Dans la Ville de Mitaka Avec Notammetal HIROKO TOKITA, Mitsuo Kaminashi et des DES Anciens de Tatsunoko COMME HISAYUKI TORIUMI, MOTOSUKE, MOTOSUKE Takahashi et mamoru Oshii. URUSEI YATSURA , with the production company Kitty Films, is the first success of the studio. This TV series broadcast from 1981 to 1986 reveals Mamoru Oshii, its director who will also work on the two films derived from the series. In 1983, the studio began the production of its first original series, especially of the genre magical girl , with series magical girl Pierrot (and) in order to make the production company a company capable of investing in new projects [ 6 ] , and also seeks to have the Pierrot brand recognized through these series, it thus forms a partnership with the advertising advertising advertising agency (and) [ 7 ] . Creamy, merveilleuse Creamy is the first series of these productions which will be followed by four others: Vanessa or the magic of dreams In 1984, Magic Emi In 1985, Susy with magic flowers a 1986 et Fancy Lala in 1998. Pierrot also produced the first OAV in history in 1983: Tanker . The studio has worked on many works broadcast on Fuji TV since URUSEI YATSURA , and whose line of adaptations of original works from the Weekly Shōnen Jump , which started in 1987 with Kimagure Orange ☆ Road (release in France under the name of Max and company ), resulted in a real success in terms of audience in 1992 with Yū ☆ Yū ☆ Hakusho , leading the studio to receive more orders for the production of animation television series [ 8 ] . In order to manage copyrights on studio productions, Pierrot Project Co., Ltd. ( Piero Project Co., Ltd. , Piero Purojekuto ? ) was created in May 1984 as a new structure. Indeed, production under contract alone did not provide enough profits for the company [ 9 ] . The reason why this activity was separated from the studio was that within the animation industry of that time, production companies already held rights over a work and that a prejudice persisted against the marketing of this last. SPO Entertainment Inc. (and) (Sales company of Pierrot and Oriental Service, A bit. “Company of sale of Pierrot and Oriental Service”) is created in 1987 as a company to sell videos, in collaboration with Oriental Cine Service, a planning and production company that had published the works of Pierrot abroad [ ten ] . In 2002, Studio Pierrot and Pierrot Project merged to form a single company under the name Pierrot Co., Ltd. ( Piero Co., Ltd. ? ) [ 9 ] . Since 2004, the name “Studio Pierrot” ( Studio Piero ? ) is used as a production brand name [ a ] . Pierrot’s head office (which also brings together the number one studio) and the section Network are located in the district of SHIMORENJAKU in Mitaka (Tokyo suburb). Studio number 2 being located in the neighboring district of Kamirenjaku . The company also has an annex installed in Fukuoka which takes care of animation and colors [ first ] . Studio Kikan ( Studio Flagship Co., Ltd. ? ) A Servi de gross week (and) [ b ] For Pierrot before joining the main studio group in 2008, and was renowned for Pierrot Plus ( Piero Plus Co., Ltd. ? ) the first is October 2009 [ 2 ] . For its productions, the subsidiary is sometimes credited with the brand “Studio Pierrot+” ( STUDIO Piero+ ? ) Although the majority of works indicate “Pierrot Plus” ( Piero Plus ? ) . The studio is renamed St. Signpost and September 2019 [ 2 ] . In July 2012 , Yūji Nunokawa leaves the position of the presidency of Studio Pierrot for the benefit of former producer Michiyuki Honma, while remaining a member of the studio management office [ 11 ] .
