Its name, Pierrot, comes from Japanese clown ( Piero ) which means Clown . This word is derived from French Pierrot , which is a type of clown of the Art commedy . The Pierrot studio has long specialized in the magical girl with successful series like Creamy, merveilleuse Creamy , Fancy Lala or more recently Tokyo Mew Mew . But since the early 2000s, the studio has turned more towards more sh\u014dnen as Great Teacher Onizuka , Bleach , HIKARU NO GO , Beelzebub or NARUTO .   After finishing his studies, Y\u016bji Nunokawa works for several studio including Mushi Production and especially Tatsunoko, where he was a host and director. In April 1977 , he formed a group of directors with Mitsuo Kaminashi (and) and Hiroko Tokita. They start their activities in an apartment in Kichijoji in Tokyo [ 4 ] . Regarding the origin of the name of the company, Nunokawa would have chosen the name according to a circus group which he saw at the Sann\u014d festival (and) during his childhood and which left him a strong impression [ 5 ] . Following his work on Maya the Bee , the Gakken company commanded him a new production in 1979: The wonderful trip of Nils Holgersson to the land of wild geese . It is on this occasion that Nunokawa created a real animation studio to then train the Studio Pierrot Co., LTD. URUSEI YATSURA , with the production company Kitty Films, is the first success of the studio. This TV series broadcast from 1981 to 1986 reveals Mamoru Oshii, its director who will also work on the two films derived from the series.
