THE Visuo-cognitive skills are the cognitive capacities required to interpret visual information and use it in all the activities of daily life [ first ] . They are a component of visual perception [ 2 ] , [ 3 ] , [ first ] . Some authors refer to visual cognition or high-level visual-perceptive skills [ 3 ] . An attack on these functions has an impact on the completion of complex visual tasks such as driving [ 4 ] . In children, a deficit of these functions affects performance in certain school tasks such as writing, drawing, coloring, cutting, collage, identification of its equipment as well as in domestic tasks including the choice or storage of clothing and playing activities requiring visual perception such as puzzles. The evaluation of visuo-cognitive skills can be made by clinical observation through daily tasks. To find out the most affected components, standardized tools such as the Test of Visual Perception Skills-Revised (Non-Motor) (TVPS-R), the Motor Free Visual Perception Test-Revised (MVPT-R), or Developmental Test of Visual Perception – 2 (DTVP – 2) are used [ 2 ] . Among the visual-cognitive components, we find visual attention, visual memory, visual discrimination and visual imagery [ first ] . Visual attention [ modifier | Modifier and code ] It is the ability to select visual stimuli from many and to transmit them to the brain for their treatment. This implies skill to remain on alert to be ready to receive and process visual information; The skill to centralize the gaze on the relevant information among several stimuli located in the visual field by ignoring those not relevant to carrying out a task (selective attention). Visual attention also includes the mental effort used to focus on a stimulus, despite the distractions, in order to continue and complete a visual task (visual alertness) and finally the capacity respond to several visual stimuli simultaneously to realize Two visual tasks or more at the same time (divided attention). Visual memory [ modifier | Modifier and code ] This is the function to associate the visual information received with visual experiences. It includes long -term memory with a large recording capacity and short -term memory which records a small amount of information for around 30 seconds. Discrimination visual [ modifier | Modifier and code ] It implies skill to detect different details specific to objects in order to recognize them, associate them or categorize them according to their differences or similarities. Visual imaging [ modifier | Modifier and code ] Also called visualization, it constitutes the ability to have images of objects or people without being physically observed. According to the developmental sequence, it is first easy to imagine objects from the sounds they produce and subsequently depending on the taste, the smell and ultimately, by the corresponding word. This skill is essential for a good understanding of reading. (in) Colleen M.
