The Ministry for exchanges and currencies It was a dicastery of the Kingdom of Italy, established between 1935 and 1944. In 1935 the Mussolini government decided to face the imposition of economic sanctions due to the war of Ethiopia with a new autarchy policy, reforming the national economic system, in particular trade with abroad. Initially the superintendence for exchanges of currencies within the Presidency of the Council of Ministers is established, under the direction of the economist Felice Guarneri. Superintendence deals with administering currencies, coordinating national imports and exports. The structure is divided into three services: currencies, external exchanges, state orders. A few months after birth, superintendence becomes part of the Ministry of Corporations, as a state undersecretariat for exchanges and currencies [first] , integrating part of the staff and skills of the institute for export. The new Undersecretariat has three general directions [2] : General Affairs, Exchanges with abroad, currencies – and also integrates some skills of the Ministry of Finance, such as customs duties, financial relations with abroad and currency dispute. In 1936 the Undersecretariat also took on some offices of other economic institutions. From the following year it becomes a ministry in its own right [3] , becoming the first and only Italian dicastery competent on monetary policy alone. The Ministry includes four general directions: General Affairs; Exchanges with abroad; currencies; import services. In October 1939 the ministry was led by Raffaello Riccardi, replaced in 1941 by Salvatore Gatti for a few months. In the same year the ministry is reorganized [4] , with five general directions: customs issues, general and personal affairs; treated and commercial agreements with foreign countries; currencies; import services; export services. Since 1943 he became Minister Oreste Bonomi with new attributions (Royal Decree 3 May 1943, n. 338). The movement of the government to Brindisi and the failure to appoint an undersecretary for exchanges and currencies led to the movement of the skills to the Undersecretary for Finance [5] . Until February 24, 1944, Minister Giovanni Acanfora remained in office, until the appointment in the interim by Guido Jung, former Finance Minister. Within the Italian Social Republic, the matter is attributed to Domenico Pellegrini Giampietro, Minister of Finance, while in the second government Badoglio the ministry is suppressed [6] Starting the skills on changes, payments abroad, currencies, currency police, trade with gold at the Ministry of Finance, while the competences on economic relations abroad, on the doors and the supervision of the Institute for Foreign trade passed to the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Labor. Commercial employees were transferred to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. ^ Royal decree December 29, 1935, n. 2186 . ^ Royal decree January 27, 1936, n. 71 . ^ Royal decree November 20, 1937, n. 1928 . The next one Royal decree March 14, 1938, n. 643 , establishes the skills. ^ Royal decree December 22, 1939, n. 1908 . ^ Royal decree December 6, 1943, n. 15\/b . ^ Royal decree May 2, 1944, n. 150 .
