Portrait d\u2019Amy Brown , of an unknown artist. modifier Amy Brown , born April 8, 1783 in Maidstone (County of Kent, United Kingdom) and died on May 7, 1876 At the Ch\u00e2teau de la Conrie in Couff\u00e9 (Loire-Atlantique, France), is a mistress (and perhaps a wife) of the Duke of Berry, son of the Count of Artois (future Charles X). Childhood and marriage [ modifier | Modifier and code ] Amy Brown is born the April 8, 1783 In Maidstone, in Kent County, in a Protestant British family. From John Brown’s wedding ( c . 1772-1824), an Anglican pastor belonging to the Scottish nobility [ first ] , [ 2 ] , and Marie Anne Deacon, little Amy shares her childhood with her brothers and sisters, most of whom die at young [ 3 ] . In 1809, Amy married a certain Freeman, with whom she had a child called John, born the December 5, 1804 . The latter then married Sophie de Blonay, a young French aristocrat. Meeting with the Duke of Berry [ modifier | Modifier and code ] With a charm and a beauty that give her a resplendent shine, Amy met the Duke of Berry in London, in 1804, when she was only twenty-one years old [ 3 ] . Exiled since 1789, the nephew of Louis XVI found refuge in the United Kingdom in 1801. He was 26 years old. Sources evoke the possible marriage between the Duke and Amy, in 1806. Celebrated by the father – Protestant – of the latter, the marriage would have remained secret and the royal family would not have been informed. From this probable union, two daughters were born: Charlotte, countess of Issoudun, and Louise, countess of Vierzon. When Napoleon abdicates the June 6, 1814 , the Duke of Berry returns to France with his two daughters. However, for political reasons, Charles-Ferdinand is forced to separate from Amy. His marriage, if he took place, is declared invalid and Amy’s report with the Duke goes from that of wife to that of simple mistress. In 1816, the Duke of Berry married the granddaughter of King Ferdinand I of the Deux-Siciles Marie-Caroline de Bourbon-Siciles, with whom he had four children. Two of them die at a young age but the other two reach adulthood: Henri (1820-1883), claiming the throne of France, and Louise (1819-1864), wife of Charles III of Parme. Murdered at the age of 42, the Duke of Berry died the February 14, 1820 With a stab of Louis Pierre Louvel, a saddler worker who wanted to “extinguish the breed of the Bourbons”. On his deathbed, the Duke of Berry asks to see Amy and his daughters, and gives his wife, who later adopts the two children, the responsibility of taking care of these. Residing at the Ch\u00e2teau de la Conrie (belonging to the Parte de la Conrie’s family, her daughter’s in-law), in the small town of Couff\u00e9, in France, Amy Brown dies the May 7, 1876 .
