Berlin metro integration [ modifier | Modifier and code ]

In 1920, the commune of Schöneberg disappeared with the creation of the Grand Berlin. At the same time, Decision is made to finally integrate the line into the Berlin metro. Thanks to the construction of a new section between Nollendorfplatz and Gleisdreick allowing to separate lines A and B (today U2 and U1), the Nollendorfplatz station is moved and reconstructed with two bunk levels which facilitate correspondence. The Schöneberg line then becomes a branch of line B, the trains continuing their journey on the Elevator to the station Kottbusser Tor Or Warschauerstrasse . This new exploitation came into force in 1926. The workshop of the HauptStraße station then became useless, which led to its closure in 1932. The station has since been in Cul-de-Sac.

In 1961, the line was again limited to Nollendorfplatz due to the construction of the Berlin Wall, which limits the Elevator To Schlesichen To R and makes its service by line B amply sufficient. In 1966, the Berlin-West metro adopted a digital system and the line was called U4. In 2010, for the centenary of the line, the BVG circulated a historic train there in traveler service for a day.

The line, confined to the city center, crosses the Schöneberg district from north to south. With a length of 2.86 km Only and only five stations, it is the shortest line in the Berlin metro. His journey is fully underground. The line has connections with the U1 and U3 lines at the station Nollendorfplatz , which allow trains to win the maintenance workshop.

The U4 line, like the U1, U2 and U3 lines, is part of the network with small size ( small profile ) which is used with trains of 2.30 m wide.
