After having narrowly failed to keep its title the following year, the club then began a long decline which led to its relegation in 2005. Financial problems then led him to start from the third step before finding the ‘Elite in 2010, which he went down again at the end of the season. Soviet period (1921-1991) [ modifier | Modifier and code ]

First years and beginnings in the lower divisions (1921-1969) [ modifier | Modifier and code ]

The club is founded in 1921 under the name IUNITAS , coming from the Latin word for “unit”, and won the Local Championship of Vladikavkaz the same year, a competition of which he then retained the title for three additional years. He merged in 1923 with the Spartak , local Komsomol club and briefly takes the name NEEDLE (abbreviation of TO Ommunistic and nternational m олоджи, for “international of young communists”) before being renamed Lénine United Workers’ Club (in Russian : United working club named after Lenin ) the next year [ 3 ] . Subsequently, the club continues to evolve at the local level, adopting in particular the name Spartak During the 1930s.

At the beginning of 1960, the Spartak was accepted within the second Soviet division as a representative of the North Ossetie as the most recent winner of the Cup of the Republic. For its national beginnings, the club generally ranks in the classification environment, while a reform of competitions replaces it in the third step from 1963. It experienced its first successes during the second half of the 1960s, finishing first From his group in 1966 to find the second division before winning again in 1969. During the following final phase, the team was victorious of the Dniepr Dniepropetrovsk, the Ska-Khabarovsk and the ž Vilnius to finish champion and thus obtained promotion in the Soviet first division [ 3 ] .

Brief passages in the elite (1970-1991) [ modifier | Modifier and code ]

Directed by Andreï Zazroïev then Kazbek Tuaev for its beginnings in the elite, the Spartak however fails to maintain itself after the 1970 season and returns directly to the second step after having finished five points last. Not managing to go up the following year by finishing fifth, the team then gradually falls into the bottom of the ranking and struggles to maintain itself in the second level throughout the 1970s.

Finally relegated after about twenty-first place in 1981, the club experienced two seasons in the third division, which are punctuated by two group victories and a success in the final phase in 1983, before finding the essay above the outcome of this last year. He then continued to fight above all to maintain himself during the second half of the 1980s. Taken in hand by coach Valeri Gazzaev in 1989, the Spartak finally had a very good 1990 season at the end of which he finished champion of the second Division and goes back to the elite. For its second passage at the highest level, and despite the departure of Gazzaev for the Dynamo Moscow, the club ends the 1991 exercise in eleventh position and maintains is sportingly, although the Soviet championship disappears at the end of that same year.

Russian period (since 1992) [ modifier | Modifier and code ]

Championship victory and European Cup passages (1992-1996) [ modifier | Modifier and code ]

Keeping a place in the new Russian first division during its training in 1992, the Spartak knows during this season very good results allowing it to take part in the final phase for the title, where it finally ranks second behind the Spartak Moscow. These performances allow him to discover the European competitions by taking part in the UEFA Cup in the summer of 1993. The club’s route turns very short, with an entrance elimination against Borussia Dortmund due to a 1- defeat 0 at home in the first leg followed by a 0-0 draw after the return match outside [ 3 ] . On the domestic level, the team successively continues to sixth and then fifth in 1993 and 1994, punctuated in parallel by a semi-final of the Russian Cup lost to penalties against the CSKA Moscow.

Renowned Spartak-Alania At the dawn of the 1995 season, the club produced exceptional performances that allow it to win the championship under the leadership of Valeri Gazzaev, returned at the head of the team the previous year. However, he cannot do the double that year, being beaten again in the semi-finals of the Cup, this time by the Rotor Volgograd, and again fails to progress in the UEFA Cup where he is beaten by Liverpool in the first round .

These domestic successes allow the club, renamed Alana At the beginning of 1996, to take part in the Champions League during the summer of the same year. His journey ends, however, again early with an entrance elimination during the preliminary round against the Glasgow Rangers, punctuated in particular by a heavy 7-2 defeat at home during the return match. Then locate in the UEFA Cup, the Alania is initially winning the RSC Anderlecht in the first leg (2-1) before losing heavily in the return match (0-4) [ 3 ] . In addition to these disappointments at the continental level, the club fails to defend its title of champion, ending equally with the Spartak Moscow at the top of the ranking at the end of the season before being beaten during the final for the title [ 3 ] .

Decline and relegation (1997-2005) [ modifier | Modifier and code ]

After the initial successes of the early years of the Russian championship, the sports performance of Alania experienced a clear decline from 1997, a year which ends in a tenth place in the championship. In the UEFA Cup, the team won its first continental confrontation in a convincing manner against the Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk (6-2 victory on all two games) but falls as early as the next round against MTK Budapest after a 4-1 defeat.

Subsequently, the club has to face the progressive departure of its executives from previous years and the rise of the surrounding teams. As a result, the sixth place in the 1999 season, which also ends with the departure of Valeri Gazzaev, as well as the 1998 Cup semi-final constituted the last notable performance of the team during the late 1990s [ 3 ] .

After the year 2000, Alania must this time fight regularly to maintain itself, never ending higher than tenth place beyond this date. The 2004 exercise thus saw the club maintaining itself after having finished equal points with the Kouban Krasnodar but by remaining in favor of the other classification criteria. However, he does not escape the descent at the end of the following season which sees him finish penultimate six points from the maintenance.

Between sports instability and administrative setbacks (2006-2014) [ modifier | Modifier and code ]

In the wake of this descent, the club’s financial problems lead him to be excluded from professional football by the Russian Football Federation at the beginning of 2006. Then reorganized under the name Spartak , he finally managed to be accepted in the third division where he immediately finished winner of the southern zone at the end of the season and accesses the second step. He then resumed the name Alana in 2007.

After having passed the 2007 and 2008 seasons in the classification world, the team reached the third position in 2009, three points from the promotion places, but ultimately takes advantage of the withdrawal of the FK Moscow in the first division to administratively access the elite [ 4 ] . This return is however short-lived, the Alania ending before the penultimate at the end of the 2010 financial year, beaten by the maintenance by the AMKAR Perm thanks to the number of victories won, to find the lower level.

The long 2011-2012 season, marked by a transition in the championship organization calendar, sees Alania quickly take part in the race for the rise where it competes mainly at the Mordovia Saransk, the Chinnik Iaroslavl and the FK Nijni Novgorod. After finishing winner of the first phase, he must finally concede the title of champion to the Mordovia but still ensures his place as a second with a total of 97 points in 52 games to find once again at the first step. In parallel, the year 2011 also saw the club access for the first time at the final of the Russian Cup where it is finally beaten by the CSKA Moscow. This performance also allows him to take part in the qualifying phase of the Europa League in the summer of the same year [ 5 ] , during which he manages to beat the FK Aktobe but must finally bow in play -offs against Beşiktaş [ 3 ] .

The club’s new return to the elite finally turns as short as the previous time, with this time a last place at the end of the 2012-2013 financial year, nine points in a barragist place. After this new descent, Alania must again face important financial problems which lead to its disappearance as a legal entity in the month of [ 6 ] .

Stagnation in the lower divisions (since 2014) [ modifier | Modifier and code ]

Only six months after the club’s dissolution, Alania is reconstituted around its reserve team, Alania-D, and continues its activities within the third division [ 7 ] . This new team then remains in operation for two seasons before being dissolved in To give way to a new entity funded by the Republic of Ossétie du North Alanie [ 7 ] , [ 8 ] . It then took its place in the third level where it finished at the bottom of the South Group during the following years.

In , the Spartak is bought by the businessman Vladimir Gouriev, who gives him in the process the name Alana . At the same time, a new Spartak is reconstituted by the regional authorities on the basis of its school club, the Spartak-2. The two teams each take the third division in the 2019-2020 season [ 9 ] , [ ten ] . Their performances are however very divergent, the Alania placing himself in the race in first place while the dark Spartak in the standings and ends up being dissolved at the end of the year [ 11 ] .

While the 2019-2020 season was finally stopped in early manner of the Cavid-19 pandemic in Russia, with the rankings stopped at the last day disputed, which places the Alania in second position behind the Volgar Astrakhan, the Club still takes advantage of the license problems of several teams in the second step to be administratively promoted, just a week before the start of the 2020-2021 season [ twelfth ] , [ 13 ] .

Despite this late climb, the Alania quickly extricated from a potential fight for maintenance and even appears as a pretender to the climb by placing himself fifth at the time of the winter break, four points from a place of barragist [ 14 ] . He managed to take the fourth position synonymous with dams, but can not participate in it because having been refused a first division license [ 15 ] . The following exercise sees the club continue to play the leading roles, ending the first phase of the championship in fourth position [ 16 ] . After the recovery, Alania also stood out in the Russian Cup in which he reached the semi-finals for the first time since 2011, eliminating in particular to do this Zenith Saint Petersburg in the quarterfinals [ 17 ] . However, he fails to reach the final by bowing against Dynamo Moscow. At the same time, the club is experiencing poor championship performances which earned it to get in the standings and finish outside promotion places.
