L’ Norwegian and technology university , better known under its Norwegian initials Ntnu (Norwegian Norwegian University of Science and Technology ), whose main administration is located in Trondheim, Norway, is a public university founded in 1996.

In addition, NTNU is the most prestigious Scandinavian institution providing training for naval engineering and naval architect. It is also, globally, a reference establishment in the maritime field, if not the first.

The NTNU was born in 1996 from the grouping of six institutions:

  • Norwegian Institute of Technology ( Norwegian Technical College , NTH),
  • College of Sciences and Arts ( The general science college , Avh),
  • Museum of natural history and archeology ( The Science Museum , VM),
  • Medical School ( The Faculty of Medicine , DMF),
  • Trondheim Academy of Fine Arts ( The Academy of Fine Arts in Trondheim ),
  • Trondheim music conservatory ( The Music Conservatory in Trondheim ).

Before 1996, NTH, AVH, DMF and VM formed together the University of Trondheim (Unit), a low centralized structure.
In 2014, the government appealed to suggestions for the purpose of improving functioning and reducing costs related to higher education. In this context, the NTNU, the University Institute of Sør-Trøndelag ( Sør-Trøndelag University College , Hist), L’Astut Universitaire de Gjøvik ( Gjøvik University College , HIG) a L’Astut Universitaire de Ålesund ( Ålesund University College , Hiqu) offer their merger in 2015 which becomes effective from the . The whole retains the names and visual identity of the NTNU. HIG and Hiå become respectively NTNU à Gjøvik And Ntnu à Ålesund and the NTNU PRE-2016 and Hist become I am Nto to Trondheim . Reorganization continues in the following years.

La NTNU See Situe Sur Diver’s Campus à Travers Trondheim, Gjøvik et Ålesund [ 2 ] , the two main ones being Gløshaugen, for science and engineering, and Dragvoll, for the human sciences, both located in Trondheim. Among the other campuses are in particular Tyholt for sea technologies, Øya for medicine, and Solsiden in downtown Trondheim, where the Academy of Fine Arts is located.
The NTNU also manages the museum of natural history and archeology of Trondheim which presents to the public three areas of research: natural history, cultural history and archeology.

The Center for University Works of Trondheim (SIT) offers various catering and health services on each NTNU campus and also manages university residences allowing students to live near their place of study.

The NTNU has more than 120 research laboratories [ first ] And collaborates very closely with the Norwegian research organization Sintef. These main strategic research sectors are energy, health, the maritime sector and sustainable development [ 4 ] .

The city of Trondheim has a very important student population that marks the life of the city.

The best known among student organizations is Student Society in Trondheim , also known under the nickname “red and round house” according to the building which houses its premises. Student community Organize the most important cultural festival in Norway, UKA, and the Trondheim International Festival of Trondheim, a student international festival in Trondheim (ISFIT) every two years, both under the responsibility of students. The organization also has a cottage for students (studenterhytta) , outside the city near the hill of Gråkallen, as well as many small chalets (cabins) available to students who wish to spend a few days in contact with nature.
