The Museum the art the toledo (in English : Toledo Museum of Art ) is an art museum located in the city of Toledo, in the state of Ohio, in the United States. The museum has a collection of 30,000 objects, but it is particularly renowned for its collection of glass pieces and the first works of the museum come from the collection of the Edward Libbey glass magnate (in) .

The museum spaces, a Greek -style building with colonnades, the glass pavilion ( Glass Pavilion recent, from 2006) and the Garden of Sculptures, are included with the University of Toledo in the 32 acres and the seven buildings of the Museum Campus .

The Greek style building and its colonnades.

The museum was founded in 1901 by the artist and industrialist of the Glass Edward Libbey who had made a fortune in the industrial manufacturing of glass bottles and glass panels used for car windshields and windows. Libbey was president of the museum until 1925 and, in 1912, at the current location of the institution, he ensured the construction of the main Greek Revival style building, drawn by architects Edward B. Green and Harry W. Wachter.

The building was growing twice in the 1920s and 1930s, notably by the addition in 1933 of an East wing, named The Peristyle , which houses a concert hall where the Toledo Symphony Orchestra is still occurring today.

In addition to the collection of glass objects and art objects, the museum has few, but remarkable Greek and Roman antiques. The museum has a large collection of paintings which covers almost all periods, including the XX It is century.
