A word for a dream ( Akeelah and the Bee ) is a 2006 film written and directed by Doug Atchison.

The story of Akeelah Anderson (Keke Palmer), an 11 -year -old girl who participates in the national spelling race, her mother, her classmates and her coach (Laurence Fishburne). The film also touches the theme of education in black communities.

The film was promoted by Starbucks As a result of the alliance between Lions Gate Films, 2929 Entertainment and Starbucks Entertainment. [first]

The film was distributed in the USA by Lions Gate Films On April 28, 2006 while in Italy it was presented on 18 October 2006 in the Boys section “Alice in the city” of the 2006 Rome Film Festival.

In Italy the film made its television debut on February 12, 2011 on La5.

The film was positively welcomed by critics, obtaining a rating 83% on Rotten Tomatoes (109 positive reviews of 131) [2] and 72/100 on Metacritic (based on 30 reviews). [3]
