Akiem — Wikipedia

AK ^{[ 3 ]} , is a French industrial group which offers locomotive rental services, locotrators, passenger trains and associated services.

Akiem is structured around two activities: rental of rolling rail equipment and the maintenance of locomotives.

Akiem is a public limited company with capital of 195,527,060 euros, currently 50% owned by transport and logistics partner SA (SNCF holding) and 50% by a fund managed by DWS ^{[ 4 ]} , world infrastructure manager.

The first ^is August 2022 , SNCF and DWS announce negotiations with the Canadian of the Quebec Deposit and Placement Caisse, for the sale of their Akiem subsidiary ^{[ 5 ]} .

Akiem SA was created in 2008, during the opening of rail freight competition.

It was in December 2008 that Fret SNCF sold part of its freight transportation locomotive fleets to SGVMT (management and recovery of traction equipment), a specialized subsidiary, in order to optimize its management. The SVGMT, baptized under the name of Akiem ¹³ , thus starts its locomotive rental activity, first to its main client, SNCF freight as well as several private SNCF subsidiaries, such as VFLI. Its fleet is then made up of 270 Alstom locomotives acquired via a dirty and leaseback operation.

In 2010, Akiem continued its growth by acquiring the Veolia Cargo Locomotive fleet, then commanded the first Bombardier Traxx electric locomotives. G1000 Vossloh and Class 77 EMD will also complete its park.

In 2014, Ermewa Group bought 100% of TLP shares. Akiem invests in 20 DC2 traxx of Bombardier Transportation.

In early 2016, Ermewa announced that 50% of Akiem’s ​​shares was sold to Eurotraction, a DWS company (formerly Deutsche Asset Management). This capital opening makes it possible to consolidate Akiem’s ​​position on this market, as well as to accelerate its development, both in France and in Europe. This operation was accompanied by a refinancing structured by a consortium of seven banks, making it possible to refinance the existing locomotive park and to support future growth for an amount of one billion euros. The structure of the company then evolves with the creation of Akiem Group which becomes the parent company of Akiem SA.

At the end of 2017, Akiem acquired the German company MGW Service, a service company for the maintenance of electric and diesel locomotives. MGW Service has a network of maintenance sites in Europe for this, the main one of which is located in Krefeld, Germany.

Akiem signs a new financing contract for 140 millions euros in 2018. A transaction on a dirty & lease back with 45 bombardier traxx e 186 dabnl is signed with NSR then Akiem Order 10 locomotives Traxx MS3 in Bombardier.

At the beginning of 2020, the company bought the rental activity of Macquarie European Rail Macquarie, which had nearly 200 locomotives and self -propelled as well as a hundred wagons ^{[ 6 ]} .

The maintenance of its railway equipment is ensured in the network of its workshops, everywhere in Europe, Germany, Sweden, Poland and Italy ¹⁴ . The headquarters of Akiem is in Saint-Ouen (93). The chairman of his board of directors is Fabien Rochefort ^{[ 7 ]} .

It has a park of approximately 750 rolling stock (including locomotives and passenger trains), making it one of the main players in this market at European level. These railway materials are rented, both to the subsidiaries of the SNCF group and to other rail operators in France and in Europe, under the brand “AKIEM”.
