Indeed, while two were recorded at the end of 1962 for the needs of the two singles of the group, the other two were waiting for the summer of 1963 and the album preparation sessions With the Beatles . The very first box put in box is therefore P.S. I Love You , the September 11, 1962 . For this session, George Martin, disappointed by the service of Ringo Starr during the previous recordings, calls on Andy White, a professional drummer [ first ] . The November 26th , and with the return of the group’s drummer, Ask Me Why is recorded to appear opposite B of the single Please Please Me [ 2 ] . The other two songs are waiting for several months. The resumption of Money (That’s What I Want) intended to close the new album is recorded on the first day of sessions for this one, the July 18, 1963 . In addition to the guitar classics, a piano appears on this song. George Martin takes care of playing it. THE July 30 , finally, the song title of the LP, All My Loving , is boxed [ 3 ] . At a time when youth, a priority target for rock record sales, very often cannot afford all the albums that come out, but does not want to be satisfied with the singles, records of four or five tracks offer a good compromise. Furthermore, they make it possible to guide the purchase of consumers by giving them a sample of what they will find on the album if they buy it. Thus, it is hardly surprising that the first EPs of the Beatles were a certain success [ 4 ] . All My Loving So gets out the February 7, 1964 , in the United Kingdom, and in Mono format only (none of the group’s EPs come out in stereo, this format being very minority at the time, and too expensive for the popular public targeted by EPs) [ 5 ] . As an image, the cover simply takes up that of With the Beatles , published three months ago [ 6 ] , but more contrasting which allows you to see the shoulders and the body. The disc is driven by his title song, which, according to the columnist Richie Unterberger d ’ AllMusic , would have made a very good single: the song also distinguished itself by becoming the very first song interpreted by the Beatles in the United States, during their visit to the Ed Sullivan Show , this same month [ 7 ] . EP enters the charts in its category the February 8 and keeps there for 44 weeks, including eight in first place (from the February 29 ). He is dethroned by the group’s new EP (and the only one to contain unpublished songs): Long Tall Sally . He also enters the charts of singles, for three months, and goes up to the twelfth It is place [ 8 ] . All My Loving , like the previous EPs of the group, offers on each of these faces a calm song and a more agitated song. Here, the two songs from With the Beatles are quite raised while the two B faces, also present on the album Please Please Me are more quiet walks. All My Loving , supported by his guitar riff, is an optimistic love song on the remoteness of the loved one and the idea of being soon gathered [ 9 ] . More violent, Money (That’s What I Want) , only recovery present on the disc, is an attempt by John Lennon to recreate the effect he had reached with Twist and Shout On the previous album. In both cases, in fact, his particularly unleashed song closes the album [ ten ] . Conversely, Ask Me Why , sung by this same Lennon, is a more posed declaration of love [ 11 ] . P.S. I Love You , in the same cozy tone, is a ballad composed by Paul McCartney a few years ago. This is a declaration of love sung in the form of a letter [ twelfth ] .
