The characters are deceased adolescents – often in a tragic way – who have not had an easy life, who suffer from trauma or who could not finish their dreams. They then find themselves in a world after death: purgatory. The latter takes the form of a Japanese high school where adolescents must live as high school students. In this new environment, they must try to live normally to realize their dreams, before disappearing once a form of peace found.

Now, a young girl, Yuri, wants to take revenge on God, for the evil he made them undergo in the real world and the injustice of their earthly life. She refuses to disappear. She then heads a team to fight this world. The name of his team varies frequently, however these rebels often refer to the front beyond, or SSS ( SHINDA SEKAI SENSEN ).

Together, they are trying to elucidate a mystery of this world: trying to understand who is the girl with white hair who scrupulously respect her life as a high school student. Yuri is convinced that it is an angel, a servant of God. She then declared war on him and trains her rebels with her.

Main characters [ modifier | Modifier and code ]

Yuzuru otonashi ( Yuzuru Otonashi , Otonashi yuzuru ? )
Japanese voice: Hiroshi Kamiya, French voice: Marc Wilhelm
Otonashi is the main character of Angel Beats! . After his death, he lost his memories of the time he lived but will take them later by the hypnotic powers of Naoi. During his lifetime, Otonashi had stopped going to school and lived only for her sister Associate Hatsune (初音, votes by: May Nakahara) and her smiles. He had promised him that one day he would show him the great avenue, at Christmas, with all his enlightened lights, whether his doctor pleases him or not. Unfortunately the doctor refused this favor and Otonashi discreetly went there by carrying his sister, causing his death. Following this death, he devoted himself to studying increasingly hard in order to become a doctor in turn. However, he died in turn of the injuries received during the train accident which must lead him to the Center of Studies for his exams. Because of his past, Otonashi has a benevolent personality and does not want anyone who feels pain or sadness. He will first be involved with the SSS and their fight against God upon his arrival on this new earth – Yuri will invite him to join the battlefront although at the beginning, he does not want to stay with the group. He still joins them for his own security against “Kanade” (the angel) until he finds his memories. After finding his past, he swears to stay. He is initially unqualified in weapons, but he begins to improve his address with a pistol shooting and shoots to report to the team when there is danger. Over the scenario, Otanashi is more attracted to Tenshi and is the only one who is comfortable around her. He wears a Glock 17, which Yuri gives him in the first episode. In the end, he will finish alone when Kanade disappears because she had confessed to her only regret, when he fell in love with her. After the credits of the last episode, two young people resembling Otonashi and Kanade intersect in a street which suggests that they will be together again. In the alternative end, we can see that he becomes president of the student council to in turn help the lost souls and seems to wait Kanade.
Yuri Nakamura «YURIPPE»
Japanese voice: Harumi Sakurai, French voice: Dany Benedito
Yuri has a determined personality and invites Otonashi to join the SSS, an organization which she founded leading a fight against God. She directs the operations of the battle front. She uses a Beretta 92, but also manages well to melee. We later learn that her two younger sisters and brother were killed during a burglary that went wrong, and that she feels guilty. While her parents were absent, burglars would have entered her house because she lived in a rich family and they would have asked her to bring her an object of value every 10 minutes, otherwise they killed a family member. Yuri finds a vase but she accidentally breaks it. 30 minutes later, the police arrive but Yuri is the only survivor. Believing in an injustice on the part of “God”, she seeks to find him by carrying out various missions against Tenshi (Tachibana Kanade), believing that she has a direct link with him. She remains an effective leader and dedicates a lot of love towards the front which she considers a large family. It is not known how her death occurred, she will just tell Otonashi that she did not commit suicide. Hinata gives him the nickname of Yurippe.
TACHIBANA KANADE «L’ANGE» («Tenshi» En Vo)
Japanese voice: Kana Hanazawa, French voice: Angélique Heller
Kanade is the president of the student council. She is responsible for stopping disruptive activities within the school, which will cause fights with the SSS (front of the beyond). Yuri will describe it under the name of “the Angel” ( tenshi in Japanese), not knowing his real name. It is difficult to understand what she thinks because she does not reveal any emotion. Despite her gentle and puny appearance, she is nonetheless incredibly powerful, her powers being from a program called “Angel Player”. Kanade has the “hand sonic” (which she creates in 5 different versions) for arms): she must pronounce the sentence: “Defensive weapon: Hand Sonic” to activate it. But his weapons are just a defense against the SSS. It has the protection of distortion. To use it, she must say this sentence: “Defensive weapon: distortion”. Tenshi can also multiply using the “harmonic” technique. She has a weakness towards Mapo Tofu, a very spicy Sichuan (China) dish. She will disappear after having revealed to Otonashi that after her death, her heart allowed her to live a little longer thanks to a transplant, and to have thanked him; His only regret having been not to have been able to say thank you to the person who allowed him to survive.

SSS [ modifier | Modifier and code ]

HINATA HIDEKI
Japanese voice: Ryōhei Kimura, French voice: Damien LAQUET
Hinata is Otonashi’s best friend in the afterlife. It is a fairly casual temperament, which does not prevent it from being popular with other students (it seems …). He participated in practically all the missions that Assigne Yuri. He is a fairly clumsy boy but he is natural protective and benevolent, despite the incongruous situations of which he is often the victim. Yui considers him as his senpai (elder, here pupil of a higher class). Hinata promises to marry her when they reincarnate. Following this declaration, Yui will find peace and will disappear. Hinata will therefore put himself on the side of Otonashi and will help her bring peace to their comrades. We have little information on his death; However, one can reasonably think that he died of an overdose because someone hands him a pill during his flashback, after his defeat in baseball. We know more about him in the manga “Angels Beats Heaven’s Door”. It was he who created the front beyond with Yurippe.
Matsushita “5-Dan”
Japanese voice: Eiichiro Tokumoto, French voice: Laurent Pasquier
Matsushita is a real mountain of muscles. He is 5 It is Dan de Judo, hence his nickname. Great friend of Hinata and Fujimaki, he never hesitates to rescue them. Note that he also does not hesitate to return his jacket for a bowl of Udon. He will train in the Mountain of the Beyond for several days before returning to meager and unrecognizable.
Noda
Japanese voice: Shun Takagi, French voice: Michaël Maïnö
Noda is the third to get to know Otonashi, after Yuri and Hinata. Naturally belligerent, he spends his time training in handling his halberd. No one knows why he chose to handle a body weapon, but everyone thinks it is to fart it. With Fujimaki and Yuri, he is one of the only ones to handle a stabbing weapon. He hates Otonashi (or at least he claims.) And has an over-developed competitive spirit. He is also considered a stupid ended with most other members, even if he turns out to be an outstanding warrior. Note that he always falls first in the traps that dot the campus. He has a flawless loyalty to Yuri, being always first to want to defend his honor.
Oyama
Japanese voice: Yumiko Kobayashi, French voice: Sarah Cornibert
Oyama is a bit like everyone’s little brother. He is often afraid, is clumsy in nature and is, like Noda, a notorious idiot. Despite everything, we can (almost) always count on him in the event of a problem. He knows almost everything about the life of the campus. Despite this, Oyama remains a wise character comparable to NPCs, who will be on board almost against his will in the SSS. He was in the same room as Hinata and it was this moment that Hinata will discover that it is not an NPC. He will first be terrified by Yuri then will join the front beyond.
Shiina
Japanese voice: Fuko Saito, French voice: Angélique Heller
Shiina is a bit kunoichi (term designating the team’s ninjas) of the team. Always in the shadows and never speaking, it is an elite warrior who is afraid of anything. His only weakness is his fetishism for cute objects (torture puppies, kittens, etc.). Since Otonashi “beat” her during the first descent to the guild, she spent her time perfecting her concentration by holding a broom in balance on her index. We don’t know much about it, except that it was one of the first to join the front. His favorite sentence is “what narrowness of mind”.
In Angel Beats: Heaven’s door , we learn that Shina is a killer with Code C7 code who died for unknown reasons. Once in the world where the story of Angel Beats takes place, she takes refuge underground for more than 1000 days. Yuri therefore understands that she comes from another era. She is finally defeated by Hinata who cuts her with a katana blow thanks to the help of Kanade and Cha. When she woke up, she decided to join the Yuri group.
Yuri will give him the name of Shina.
Takamatsu
VOIX JAPONAISE: TAKAHIRO MIZUSHIMA
The binoclard of the band. His glasses are only there to make class and give the impression that he is intelligent, because he is also an idiot. He always has the habit of going up on his nose, to give a more stylish air to his aftershocks. Despite a lean appearance, he hides under his shirt a perfectly sculpted athlete body. Taka is actually training in reality, and which does not prevent him from passing for a stupid during the operation “Semi -semi -annual exams”
Fujimaki
Japanese voice: Yuki Masuda
One of the three stabbing fighters of the SSS. We know practically nothing of him.
Tk
Japanese voice: Rivas Michael
He is a boy with blond hair wearing a headband hiding his eyes. He speaks only a summary English. No one has ever known their past. He often moves as if he were on the rhythm of music. He only fights with dance movements, and more rarely with a pistol. We assume in the manga that he is a delayed child but with high potential.
Takeyama
VOIX JAPONAISE: MITSUHIRO Ichiki, Voix Française: Elise Gamet
The small genius of the band is able to program and infiltrate computer systems. He knows more than a hundred decimals of Pi and always asks that he is called “Christ”. He designed the “briefing manager” that Yuri uses to announce the operations.
NAOI AYATO
Japanese voice: Megumi Ogata, French voice: Laurent Pasquier
Naoi is a potter’s son who, after the accidental death of his gifted brother, was assigned the role of heir to potter art thus replacing his brother. Despite all his efforts, he cannot reach the same level as the latter. He promises that under the supervision of his father, he will do his best to match or even surpass his brother despite his blatant lack of talent. His father quickly fell seriously ill and finds himself dependent on his son. Naoi realizes that he can never do something of his life. All this leads him to think that he has never really lived only in place of his brother, and that he ultimately never had his own existence. It is Otonashi who convinces him from the contrary thanks to strong words. After his death, Naoi arrives in the afterlife and quickly won the place of vice-president of the student council, alongside “Tenshi”, Kanade. He managed not to disappear despite his good conduct by violating the NPCs secretly. After the dismissal of Kanade, he took the reins of the campus and reigns with an iron fist on the students by using violence. Finally, Otonashi and Kanade will manage to stop the massacre that he started in the front, and Naoi will put himself on their side. Otonashi is the only one he sincerely respects, the others being for him only fools. He learned to master hypnosis in the afterlife, and will use it on many occasions.
Priests
VOIX JAPONAISE: HIROKI Tōchi
Chaa is the leader of the guild, located in the basement to make weapons to fight Tenshi. Despite his appearance, he is the same age as Yuri and the others. He appreciates Yuri because this one looks like his late woman.

Girls Dead Monster [ modifier | Modifier and code ]

Girls Dead Monster is a rock group made up of four members: Iwasawa (which will be replaced by Yui from episode 4), Hisako, Irie and Sekine.

Iwasawa masami
Japanese voice: Miyuki Sawashiro, French voice: Sandra Vandroux
Iwasawa is one of the girls on the front and also the first leader in “Girls Dead Monsters”. She spent her life surviving between a torn family on one side, and a multitude of jobs to pay for her music hearings (?). One day, she vanished at her workplace because of a piece of glass received during an argument from her parents. In the hospital, she is told that she will no longer be able to speak. So she dies of sadness because she can no longer sing.
Once in the afterlife, she made a place for herself on the campus stage within the student rock group “Girlsdemo”. During her last concert, cornered by the teachers on the stage of the gymnasium, she tears off her very first guitar (only acoustic guitar she uses) from the hands of a teacher and sings her last song before disappearing, finally finding peace Through the song.
Yui
Japanese voice: Eri Kitamura, French voice: Sandra Vandroux
Yui is the replacement for Iwasawa in the group “Girls Dead Monsters” and is also part of the SSS. She is a girl overflowing with good humor and hysterical. During her lifetime, Yui was a disabled girl, paralyzed. She couldn’t do anything apart from watching television and was completely dependent on her mother. She would have liked to live as a normal person: being able to do baseball, football or even get married. It is thanks to Hinata and Otonashi that she achieves all her regrets and that she can disappear in peace.
Hisako
Japanese voice: Matsuura chie, French voice: Sarah Cornibert
Hisako is the solo guitarist of the group “Girls Dead Monsters”. She will base GDM with Iwasawa.
Irie miyuki
Japanese voice: Kana Asumi, French voice: Justine Hostekint
Irie is the drummer of the group “Girls Dead Monsters”.
SEKINE SHIORI
Japanese voice: Emiri Katō, French voice: Margot Blanchet
