The Azerbaijanic Azerbaijani Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet (Azér: Azerbaijan State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater ) is a theater located in Bakou, capital of Azerbaijan, which became academic in 1959.

The theater was founded in May 1920, by decree of the government of the RSS of Azerbaijan. The theater is established in the building, built in 1910-1911 (architect N. Babayev). In 1910, the Maïlov brothers had the idea of ​​building on their own land the new building for the theater, large and equipped in a modern way.
The theater hall can accommodate 1281 spectators.

In the theater are staged dramatic shows, ballet, opera, operetta in Azerbaijani and Russian [ first ] .

In the season of 1924 – 1925, the Ballet and Opera troupe was brought together in an isolated collective, with the best masters of the Azerbaijani musical theater: Bul -Bul, Huseyngulu Sarabski, Huseyyyyn Hadjibababeyov, M.T.baghirov, hənən ə Mammadova, Sevil Hadjiyeva, Fatma Mukhtarova, Hagigat Rzayeva [ 2 ] .

During the 1924-1925 season, the operas Leylli and Chad Mannoun d’Uzeyir Hajibeyov, et Chaah ismaïl by Muslim Magomayev are represented.
In 1925, spectators can attend Archin Mal-alan , Achug Garib , in 1929 at Chaah ismaïl .

In 1930, the theater received the name of Mirza Fatali Akhundov [ first ] .

In 1938, the theater was decorated with the order of Lenin [ 3 ] .

In 1940, The Tower of the Virgin by A. Badalbeyli, the first Azerbaijani ballet, is staged [ 3 ] .

The composer Tağızadə-Hacıbəyov niazi zülfüqar oğlu brings his contribution to the theater.
In 1937-1948, he was the conductor, in 1951-1952 and 1958-1959, main conductor, and in 1961-1965, its artistic director.

The shows, played in the theater, are several times honored with the Stalin Prize:

  • 1941 – Quarrel d’Uzeyir Hajibeyov (Mis En SCène EN 1937)
