Backlash 2018 It was the fourteenth edition of the homonymous Pay-Per-PEW event produced annually by the WWE. The event took place on May 6, 2018 at the Newark Prudential Center (New Jersey).

It was the first pay-per-view of the second Brand Extension to roster united by Battleground 2016 .

In 2019, Backlash was replaced by Stomping Grounds, but then was reinstated in 2020.

On April 8, in Wrestlemania 34, Brock Lesnar successfully defended the Universal Championship against Roman Reigns. In Wrestlemania 34, Charlotte Flair successfully defended the Smackdown Women’s Championship against Asuka, thus ending the latter’s unbeatability strip. In the episode of SmackDown On April 10 Carmella collected the Money contract in the Bank on Charlotte Flair (who had previously been attacked by Billie Kay and Peyton Royce), thus conquering the WWE Smackdown Women’s Championship.
