Born to replace the old Bentley Continental R and T models, the Continental GT is the new model with which Bentley, who became part of the Volkswagen group, has put an end to the long dependence on the English house Rolls-Royce almost seventy years old .
The new corporate strategy, oriented to the will of rebirth of its brand, has contributed to redefining new stylistic parameters with determination, creating a new and more strong identity for its own cars. [first]

The engine

Unlike the models it replaces, based on the Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit/Bentley Mulsanne platform, the Continental GT derives from the Volkswagen platform D3 , also used by the Bentley Continental GTC, the Bentley Continental Flying Spur, the Audi A8 and the Volkswagen Phaeton.
The engine is a 6 -liter, 12 cylinders a 72º W (two banking each with 6 -cylinder V 15th), supercharged by two turbochargers, provides a power of 560 HP at 6100 rpm, and a 250 Nm driving torque at 1600 rpm.
The traction is four -wheel drive, the six -speed gearbox is automatic electronic control, with possible sequential manual use.
Maximum speed 318 km/h and acceleration 0-100 km/h in 4.8 seconds.
Bagliaio 370 DM³, 90 -liter tank capacity.
Consumption: urban (26.2 liters/100 km), extra-urban (11.9 liters/100 km), mixed (17.1 liters/100 km).
Co emission 2 (Misto): 410 g/km.

Bentley Continental GT Speed [ change | Modifica Wikitesto ]

Una Bentley Continental GT Speed

The Speed It is an increased performance version of the Continental GT. It was equipped with a 600 HP W12 engine that allowed the maximum speed of 326 km/h with acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds. The bodywork had various air intakes to improve the cooling of the engine and new high -performance tires were inserted with new 20 -inch alloy wheels inside. The braking system consisted of carboramic disc brakes. The standard drain system was replaced by a sports model with stainless steel terminals. [2] In version 2021 the 6.0 -liter W12 TSI engine delivers 650 HP pushing the car at a maximum speed of 335 km/h. A newly concept charcoal braking system is introduced as an optional and, for the first time on a Bentley, the use of an electronic rear differential (ELSD) [3] .

In 2009, Bentley presented a special high -performance version of the Continental GT, called Supersports . This car, to reduce the environmental impact and at the same time increase performance, uses bioethanol E85 as proposed. To increase the adherence of the car, new 20 “tires have been introduced, a measure that required the widening of the 25 mm wheel argument. For the realization, materials such as carbon, alcantara and leather were used. This has allowed a lightening of the car of 45 kg. Other precautions have reduced the weight to a total of 2240 kg. The engine equipped with turbochargers is able to deliver 630 Cv at 6,000 rpm with torque on 800 Nm between 1,700 and 5,600 rpm. To increase its performance, a computerized fluidinomous computerized study was performed which involved a modification of the front design to allow a 10% increase in the flow rate of air towards intercooler and front radiators and the improvement of aerodynamic flows. Thus set, the car goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds. Further improvements were affixed to the 6 -speed automatic transmission ZF 6HP26 and the permanent all -wheel drive. The braking system consists of 4 charcoal disk brakes combined with the ABS and ESP driving control systems. [4]

Bentley Continental GTZ [ change | Modifica Wikitesto ]

La Bentley Continental GTZ

At the 2008 Ginevra Automobile Motor Show Bentley presented a one-off of the Continental GTC recharified by the Zagato bodywork, the GTZ . The mechanical part, unlike the bodywork, was the same as the original model. [5] The GTZ model mounts a 6-liter Longudinal front V12 Twin-Turbo engine and uses a six-speed gearbox with all-wheel drive and traction control. from 0 to 100 in 4.5 seconds and with a maximum speed of 326km/h. The price is around $ 100,000.

In 2013 the version was introduced S of the Continental GT V8. It was equipped with new reduced sports suspensions and the V8 Twinturbo engine had been enhanced to 521 HP of power, with a torque of 680 nm. The latter was managed by an eight -speed ZF automatic transmission. The acceleration took place in 4.5 seconds, with a maximum speed of 309 km/h. Aerodynamics have undergone several touches to improve the flow of air and cooling the mechanical components. [8]

Bentley Continental GT3-R [ change | Modifica Wikitesto ]

Una Bentley Continental GT3-R

Based on the competition continental GT3, in 2014 the technicians of the English company built a road version of the vehicle in 300 specimens, the Gt3-r . The engine that equipped it was a 4.0 Twin-Turbo V8 which developed 572 HP of power with 700 Nm of torque managed by an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission. This allowed the achievement of a maximum speed of 273 km/h with acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds. Numerous superfluous components have been eliminated to lighten the weight of the vehicle and new irrigation sports suspensions and new forged rims have been mounted by 21 “wrapped in Pirelli sports tires. The braking facility consisted of disc brakes made of CSIC (Carbon Silicon Carbide ), while numerous components of the GT3-R were built in carbon fiber. [9]

In 2013 the Continental GT was enrolled in competitions with FIA GT3 specifications. The car had been lightened by 1000 kg compared to the standard model and its V8 4.0 engine had been developed to produce a power of 600 HP. The latter was managed by a six -speed XTRAC gearbox with limited slip differential connected to a carbon fiber engine tree. The car body had been updated with a new carbon aerodynamic kit to adapt to the new performance of the vehicle. The braking system consisted of steel disc brakes with six piston pliers with the front and four pistons at the rear. The sports activity worldwide continued with the participation in the Blancpain Sprint Series. [ten]
