This item collects the information regarding the Legnano football association In the official competitions of the season 1987-1988 .
Before the beginning of the season, in June 1987, Giovanni Mari resigned from the office of President of Legnano. The friend and collaborator Ferdinando Villa succeeds Mari. The new management, in the light of the disastrous previous championship, decides to strengthen the team with the aim of aiming for promotion to Serie C1.
As regards the transfer market, the goalkeepers Alberto Dalla Molin and Gianluigi Valleriani, the defenders Alessandro Dozio Enrico Pedretti and Davide Biolcati, the midfielders Mauro Antoniooli and Alessandro Marcellino and the strikers Andrea Bertini and Valerio Mazzucato are purchased. Among the departures, there are those of the goalkeepers Ruggero Aiani and Dario Cantoni, the defenders Luigi Cappelletti, Enrico Leoni, Mauro Mosconi and Fabrizio Zoppellaro, the midfielders Maurizio Grosselli, Sandro Pietta and Loris Boni and the attacker Virginio Araldi. On the Lilla bench is called Mauro Bicycle.
In the 1987-88 season, Legnano played group B of the C2 series, reaching 6th in the standings with 32 points, 9 lengths from the promotion area. Noteworthy are the victories in the derby with Pro Patria (for 4 to 1) and Varese (for 3 to 2). THE Small Above all, they pay a swinging group, followed by an excellent return group. Instead, in the Italian Coppa Serie C, the Legnano, after having arrived first in group B and beat the Telgate in the round of 32, is eliminated in the round of 16 by Reggiana.
Just before the start of the season, on September 8, Giovanni Mari dies: to commemorate him, on 11 October, on the occasion of the very heartfelt derby with the Pro Patria, the municipal stadium of via Pisacane is dedicated to the unforgettable president who passed away. During the season the merger hypothesis between the Pro Patria and the Legnano, a proposal that had not followed.
