I Cardinals Palermo They are an American football team of the city of Palermo.
In fact, on September 21, 1983, the first meeting of all the invited athletes, followed by the 1st training, took place on 21 September 1983 at the “Piazzale dei Marriage”. [3]

The first historian Huddle of Cardinals took place on September 21, 1983, when three students of the ISEF, Giuseppe Gallo, Alfonso Genchi and Francesco Rando, founded the oldest company among those currently in business in Southern Italy. During that year and in the following, the company still knocked at the gates of AIFA – the Italian American Football Association -, which, having examined the technical and organizational skills of the Palermo team, finally admitted the Cardinals to the nascent Serie C championship of September 1985.
Before that championship there were three other friendly matches in order to perfect the growth of the entire staff: in Crotone on 16 December 1984 against the Grasshoppers Bari, winning the “of the Gaudio” trophy 32-6. In Palermo on 10 March 1985 against the Roosters Bari winning for 12-0, and in Bari on May 26, 1985 losing for the first time for 22-8 against the Roosters themselves.

The Cardinals recorded the best results of their long sporting history by participating, from 1996 to 2000, in five consecutive maximum series championships, embellished with two participation in the playoffs: the first time in 1998 (quarter -final), and the second in 2000 where they landed to the semifinals; Both times their path to the title was stopped by the future Italian Lions Champions of Italy.
In 2012, Italian champions graduated in the Italian Football championship at 9 (CIF9), version of the football with 9 players per team (instead of 11), played under the aegis of Fidaf, imposing himself in the Turin final of 30 June 2012, Against the Bills of Cavaliermaggiore, champions of the North Conference of the CIF9 championship.

The Cardinals gained some international experiences of significant importance, in 1987 they played the first official game of American football in Spanish land, in Barcelona against the Badalona Drags; In 1996 they were invited by the Mexican Federation to play the prestigious Tazon Aztec in Mexico City against Mexican university selection.

In 1998 Palermo Cardinals and its president Alberto di Dio, were among the promoters of the birth of the IFAF (International Federation of American Football) who was born in Palermo. The following year in 1999, of God and the Cardinals were organizers of the first World Cup of American Football with the participation of six national selections. In that same location, at the first plenary assembly, the president of the Cardinals and president of the organizing committee of the World Cup of Palermo Alberto di Dio, was elected in the Board IFAF with a position of Vice President (assignment held until 2001).

In 2011, on the occasion of the World Cup of Vienna in Austria, the IFAF assembly wanted to give Alberto di Dio the honor of being appointed honorary member of IFAF for life, recognizing the merits of first promoter of the birth of the international federation.
