Dark room is a group of British pop indie, from Glasgow, in Scotland. He was trained in 1996 in Glasgow in Scotland by Tracynanne Campbell, John Henderson, and Gavin Dunbar.

The first publications of the group are the singles Park and Ride And Your Sound in 1998 [ 2 ] . Then the composition of the group knew its first changes in 2000 and 2001, with the arrival of Lee Thompson on battery, from Lindsay Boyd to keyboards and the replacement of skirving by Kenny McKeeve [ 3 ] .

The group’s first album, Biggest Bluest Hi Fi , is published in 2001. It is produced by Stuart Murdoch of the Belle and Sebastian group, and recommended by John Peel, who will make them participate in their first Peel Sessions During the summer of 2002. It was also in 2002 that Nigel Baillie joined the group as a trumpeter and percussionist, while Carey Lander replaces Lindsay Boyd [ 3 ] , [ 4 ] . The second album of Camera obscura, Underachievers Please Try Harder was born in 2003. It was followed by a tour in the United Kingdom and Ireland, as well as in the United States, a first for the group. John Henderson leaves the group at the end of the tour [ 5 ] . In early 2004, the group recorded the songs I Love My Jean And Red, Red Rose , following their third Peel Session , during which John Peel will ask them to adapt these Robert Burns poems to music [ 3 ] .

Camera obscura record their third album, Let’s Get Out of This Country In Sweden in 2005. The album was produced by Jari Haapalainen, he was released on June 6, 2006 [ 6 ] . The song of the same name is used in episode 5 of the TV series Friday Night Lights . The first single, Lloyd, I’m Ready to Be Heartbroken is a response to the song of Lloyd Cole and the Communions Are You Ready to Be Heartbroken [ 7 ] . In November 2008, the group announced that it has finished recording the successor of Let’s Get Out of This Country , and in February 2009 that they signed with 4ad [ 8 ] . The new album, My Maudlin Career is published in April 2009. It is preceded by the single French Navy [ 9 ] . At that time, the group also announces that for family reasons, Nigel Baillie will have less time to devote to Camera obscura, and will therefore only be a “part -time” member [ ten ] .

In 2015, the group had to cancel its tour in North America following Carey Lander’s disease. Indeed, she had been diagnosed with osteosarcoma in 2011. No longer being able to ensure her performance, she embarked on a donation campaign to help research and victims of this disease. Despite this, Lander died on October 11, 2015 [ 11 ] , having previously collected more than £ 73,000 [ twelfth ] .
