Christian Lemaître , born in 1954, is a French musician of Breton culture, one of the leaders of the revival of the violin in Brittany. He became interested in Irish music, Breton music, then some music by Balkans.

He starts music with the guitar, in picking, then in open agree. In 1975 in Paris, listening to The Bothy Band, when he discovered the violin, he naturally turned to Irish music. He makes his classes At Ti Jos , famous Breton bar in Montparnasse and discovered Breton music during a concert by Alan Stivell, in Bobigny [ first ] . In 1979, he moved to Brittany, in Botsorhel and then in Saint-Jean-du-Doigt. In 1980, with Soïg Siberil and Alan Kloatr, he joined Breton music. He also plays with Youenn Gwernig in Plogoff. He concentrates his work as an instrumentalist on the Breton style, the inability (Archet technique) [ 2 ]

This double belonging will quickly lead him to the creation of the Kornog group (Soïg Siberil, Jamie Mc Menemy and Jean-Michel Veillon) with whom he turned throughout Europe and in the United States in 1983. The adventure continues with the Fest-noz Pennoù Skoulm group which brings together Christian, Jacky and Patrick Molard, then Ronan Le Bars. It then forms the set of “archetype” strings (6 violins, cello and double bass).

In 1992, he joined violinists Kevin Burke (Ireland) and Johnny Cunningham (Scotland) to shoot in the United States, England and Ireland under the name of Celtic Fiddle Festival, with whom he recorded six albums. In the 1990s, he continued his way into Breton music and joined the Fest-Noz Storvan group. Then he plays for six years with Gilles Servat, notably passing through Olympia (Paris), Paris-Bercy, Les Vieilles Charrues … He subsequently multiplied the recordings on many shows of all dimensions (the heritage of the Celts ,, Songs for the feet by Jean-Jacques Goldman …). In duet with Jean-Pierre Le Cornoux (from the group “Les Pires”) on the piano, he records the disc Affinities . He plays with the Molard brothers in their creation Bal Tribal .

In the 2000s, he continued to play with Celtic Fiddle Festival, but where Johnny Cunningham, deceased, was replaced by André Brunet. With them, he meets the violinist Gilles Apap who joined the group during the American tour in 2006 and 2008. Always playing with Kornog, Pennou Skoulm and Storvan, he also plays with the quintet first called Tevenn Then Eadha , initiated by the harmless Morlaisian harpsichord Kevin the saint. He formed a duo with Philippe Hunsinger (Bouzouki). He participated in the show initiated by Didier Lockwood, Passport for a violin . Holder of the state diploma in traditional violin professor, he drives numerous internships and interventions in the conservatory.

In 2011, he organized “by chance” the violin festival of Saint-Jean-du-Doigt [ 3 ] . His collection Breton consequences for solo violin appears in . It includes 18 Breton music suites, with an audio CD, the corresponding partitions (unpublished) and the corresponding instrumental techniques explanations. In 2014, he joined forces with guitarist Erwan Moal to form a duo [ 4 ] . He continues to play with Celtic Fiddle Festival (Kevin Burke, Charlie Mckerron, Nicolas Quemener), on tour in the United States in 2013. In 2016, Kornog joined the musicians of Pennoù Skoulm under the Breton name Blend in order to do a tour Municipality (Celtic Connections in January 2016 [ 5 ] , Old plows [ 6 ] , Interceltic of Lorient 2019 [ 7 ] …).
