He played in the major baseball league from 1986 to 1991. Darrel Akerfelds, a right -handers, is drafted at 9 It is Tour of selection by the Braves of Atlanta in 1980 while it was evolving at the Columbine High School in Littleton, in Colorado [ first ] . But, preferring American football, he does not sign a contract with the team and engages at the University of Arkansas, where he practices this sport in addition to baseball [ 2 ] . With the Arkansas Razorbacks football team, he is one of the players who participated in the 1981 Gator Bowl against the Tar Heels team from North Carolina [ 2 ] . Akerfelds becomes a choice of first round of the Seattle Mariners in 1983 [ 3 ] And ultimately chooses a baseball player career. He began his professional career with a naval school club in minor leagues in 1983 [ 4 ] . It is exclusively used as a succession launcher and appears in 71 games, the second highest total among the launchers of the team after the 72 games played by Roger McDowell [ 5 ] . In 1991, Akerfelds launched in 30 parts of the phillies. Darrel Akerfelds played 125 games in major baseball, 112 of these as lift. In 1998 and 1999, he was an instructor in the Rancho Cucamonga quakes in California League, an A-Advanced level club. In 2000, he joined the Triple-A of the Padres school club, then in Las Vegas in the League of the Pacific Coast [ 6 ] . The Triple-A of San Diego Padres school club was moved to Portland in 2001 and Akerfelds begins the season as an instructor of the launchers, before migrating to the succession enclosure [ 6 ] . in 2002 [ 6 ] , Aklerfelds is appointed instructor in the succession enclosure in the Padres of San Diego and lived there until 2012. He died from pancreatic cancer in Phoenix, Arizona, at the age of 50 years on June 24, 2012 [ 7 ] . He is at this time the instructor being with the paadres since the longest [ 6 ] .
