Faced with the success of Ian Fleming’s novels with James Bond, he abandoned the police genre to write spy novels. In 1960, he created the character of Matt Helm, agent of the secret services that we find in twenty-seven novels until 1993. Two of the novels of the series, The Retaliators And The Terrorizers , were nominated in 1977 and 1978 for the Edgar-Allan-Poe Prize for best novel. In the cinema, Matt Helm was interpreted four times by Dean Martin and, in the television series Matt Helm , it is Anthony Franciosa who embodies the title role.

Donald Hamilton spends the last years of his life in his native country.
