L’ French Embassy in Iraq is the diplomatic representation of the French Republic with the Republic of Iraq. It is located in Baghdad, the country’s capital, and its ambassador has been, since 2021, Éric Chevallier.

The embassy is located in Baghdad and also hosts a consular section.

Electoral constituencies [ modifier | Modifier and code ]

Since the law of [ twelfth ] Reforming the representation of the French established outside of France with the implementation of consular advice within diplomatic missions, French nationals of a constituency covering Jordan and Iraq elect for six years a consular advisor. The latter has three roles:

  1. He is an elected representative for the French abroad;
  2. It is up to one of the fifteen constituencies that elect the members of the Assembly of the French from abroad within them;
  3. He joined the electoral college which elects the senators representing the French established outside of France.

For the election to the Assembly of French people from abroad, Iraq belonged until 2014 to the electoral district of Beirut [ 13 ] , also including Jordan, Lebanon and Syria, and designating two seats. Iraq now belongs to the electoral district “Central Asia and Middle East” whose chief town is Dubai and which designates four of its 23 consular advisers to sit among the 90 members of the Assembly of French people from abroad [ 14 ] .
