The Nugaret de la Valette house , formerly Nogaret , is a ducal family of the French nobility from Lavalette (Haute-Garonne) in Languedoc [ first ] . She died out at XVII It is century.

It was raised four times for Ducal (1581, 1611, 1621, 1622) and to the rank of peer of France from 1581.

Jean-Louis de Nogaret de la Valette (1554-1642) was one of the intimate of King Henri III and one of the main characters of the French nobility during the reigns of the Kings Henri III, Henri IV and Louis XIII.

This family counted two members of France among its members, provincial governors, two prelates.

It should not be confused with several more recent or older homonymous families such as that of Guillaume de Nogaret (1260-1313).

His first known member is Jacques Nogaret, lord of Valette, Capitoul de Toulouse in 1366, 1377 and 1385, recognized noble by letters of Charles V dated 1372 [ 2 ] .

Originally from Languedoc, this family became Gasconne after its installation near Lectoure, at the Château de Caumont-Cazaux built for Pierre de Nogaret de la Valette between 1530 and 1535 [ 3 ] .

His notoriety at the Court of France begins when Jean-Louis de Nogaret de la Valette is admitted among the cute of King Henri III. It will therefore occupy high charges and will be raised for ducal title from 1581.

          • Louis-Charles de Nogaret de Foix (1627-1658), duc de La Valette et de Candale, pair de France, colonel général de l’infanterie, gouverneur et lieutenant général de Bourgogne, Bresse et Auvergne, sans alliance.
        • Louis de Nogaret de la Valette d’Épernon (1593-1639), archbishop of Toulouse, created Cardinal in 1621, lieutenant general of the king’s armies
        • Louis de Nogaret de la Valette (? -1679) (natural son of Jean-Louis de Nogaret de la Valette), bishop of Mirepoix then of Carcassonne
