Italian youth basketball championships
I Italian youth basketball championships They are divided into some categories based on the players’ age groups.
The national phase of the Juniores championship (Under 19) has been held since 1949, the one falling since 1971, that students since 1948 [first] , that boys (under14) since 1969 and that propaganda from 1976 to 1985 [2] .
Starting from the 2001/02 season, the “boys” category, reserved for the under 14, changed its name to “Bam” and in 2005/06 it simply became “under 14”.
In the 2001/02 season a league higher than the junior category was introduced, initially as “Under 20”, which later became “Under 21” since 2004/05.
In the 2003/04 season the vintages were climbed by one: the Juniores became under 18 and the cadets under 16. This postponement entailed the disappearance of the “Students” category (under 15), a term which however remained to identify the under 13: in fact, they were Eliminate the two vintages of the “Propaganda” category (Under 12 and Under 13), replaced respectively by an additional year of the MiniBasket championship, the “Debutants”, and by an under 13 championship called “students”.
Starting from the 2004/05 season, the traditional name of the categories was joined by the “Under” name, which then became the one uniquely official from the 2005/06 season. Also from the 2005/06 season, the “students” category becomes “Under 13”.
After only four seasons, since 2007/08 the so -called “even ages” abandoned and passed to the “odd ages”, and the national championships became respectively “Under 19 of excellence”, “Under 17 of Excellence” and “Under 15 of excellence “. Instead, the “Under 14” and the “Under 13” remained.
From 1969 to 1989 a further championship called “Boys Trophy” was played which was then reduced by regional nature from 1990 to 1999 and then was restored nationally from 2000 to 2003. [3]

The Trophy of the Regions [7] It is a tournament that takes place annually between the regional youth representatives, both in the men’s (under 14) and female sector (under 15). Was established in 1982 with the name of Decio Scuri Tournament , in honor of one of the pioneers of Italian basketball, and had an annual cadence until 1992. After a few editions, the federation reactivated it for the two sections in 2003 with the current name [8] .
In the recent gold register [9] Lombardy is the region that appears with multiple victories (2000, 2001, 2003, 2012, 2015 and 2018 men, 2005, 2007, 2007, 2010, 2011, 2018 and 2019 female) then Veneto (2005, 2006, 2007 and 2019 Male, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2012 and 2014 female); Followed by Tuscany (2004 and 2009 male, women’s 2015), Lazio (2008, 2011 and 2014 male), Friuli-Venezia Giulia (2002 female), and Emilia-Romagna (male 2010).
The “Bulgheroni Trophy” is a tournament that has been annual from 1989, the year of the first edition, reserved for the regional representatives of the Under 13 Male and female category in fact this tournament offers an appetizer of what the trophy of the regions will be (reserved for categories Under 14 male and under 15 women).
In 2011, to make the bis or win in both categories was the Lombard team while in 2012 it was the Veneto who triumph in the male category while in the female one the Lombard team was reconfirmed. The Bormio 2014 edition saw the statement once again of male Lombardy, while for the female tournament there was the affirmation of Tuscany.
