Jean Antoine Gal is nortant to Jacques Fran\u00e7ois and his wife Marie-Joseph Gaspard [ first ] . Ordered priest December 19, 1818 , Doctor of theology of the University of Turin the May 27, 1820 . Professor of dogmatic theology at the college and then in the Grand-S\u00e9minaire from 1823 to 1867. Canon in 1823 of the collegiate church of Saint-Ours. According to a legend, in 1833 he went to Turin to beg to the feet of the king so that the stones of the Roman theater of Aosta were not used to build the town hall. He was elected prior of the collegiate church of Saint-Ours in 1854 and appointed Vicar General (1854-1859). Member of the Academy of Savoy in 1833, he was made knight of the Order of Saint-Maurice on August 7, 1849 [ 2 ] . In 1855, by invitation from the Prussian Academy of Sciences, he helped Th\u00e9odore Mommsen during his research concerning Roman inscriptions in Aosta for the drafting of Body Inscriptionum . He founded with other Valdostan intellectuals, both religious and lay, the Saint-Anselme academy in 1855, which aims, among other things, to establish a catalog and to safeguard the Roman remains of Aosta and historiography local. He assumed the presidency until his death in 1867. He was also president of the Committee for the conservation of antiques of the Duchy of Aosta .
