Kenan Sofuoglu , born the , in Adapazarı in Turkey, is a Turkish motorcycle speed driver. He won the Supersport World Championship five times in 2007 and 2010 with Honda, and in 2012, 2015 and 2016 with Kawasaki. He thus becomes the most titled in the Supersport World Championship.
The beginnings (2000-2005) [ modifier | Modifier and code ]
After having made his classes in the Turkish championship, Kenan Sofuoğlu left in Germany where he won the R-6 Cup in 2002 and then finished second in the Supersport German championship the following year. The same year, he played three events in the Supersport World Championship where he will finish sixteenth in Valence but will abandon on the Oschersleben circuit and Magny-Cours.
Noticed by Yamaha, Kenan Sofuoğlu competes, in 2004, the European Championship 1000 Superstock (an anti-chamber of the Superbike). For its first year in this category, the Turkish won five podiums on nine races (a second place and four third places), which finally places it in third place in the final classification. In 2005, when he was the big favorite of the F.I.M 1000 Superstock Cup, Kenan Sofuoğlu finished second in the championship behind the Belgian Didier Van Keymeulen for six points.
Supersport World Championship (2006-2007) [ modifier | Modifier and code ]
The supersport beginnings by Kenan Sofuoğlu are rather good since he has a end of the season full of promises with two third places in Brno and Brands Hatch, he also won his first two races in Assen and Lausitz and finished second in Imola and in Magny-Cours. Thanks to him, Sébastien Charpentier was able to win his second title in Supersport because when the Frenchman was injured, Kenan Sofuoğlu prevented Kevin Curtain from taking as many points possible. For his first complete campaign in Supersport, the Turk finished third in the final ranking, behind Sébastien Charpentier and Kevin Curtain.
For the following season, Kenan Sofuoğlu is still in the shadow of Sébastien Charpentier but 2007 will not go as planned. With the injuries of his teammate and Kevin Curtain, Kenan Sofuoğlu suddenly finds himself alone in the world and will win eight events out of thirteen. He therefore became Supersport World Champion with 276 points against 133 points for the second, Broc Parkes. He is the first Turk to become a motorcycle world champion and becomes a hero in his country.
Difficult year in Superbike (2008) [ modifier | Modifier and code ]
Kenan Sofuoğlu then switches to Superbike with the same team, Hannspree Honda Ten Kate. During the offseason, it is announced as outsider for the title and it is even feared by Troy Bayliss. But he will never be able to adapt to this category and, with the death of his older brother Sinan, Kenan is completely demotivated. His best performance will only be a ninth place in the first Magny-Cours race. He finished the championship at a disappointing eighteenth place. At the end of the season, Kenan Sofuoğlu returns to Supersport and has a Hat-Trick (pole position, victory and best tour) for the last race on the new Portuguese circuit in Portimao, finally ranking nineteenth in the championship with 25 pt .

Still with the Hannspree Honda Ten Kate team, Kenan Sofuoğlu is playing a new season in the Supersport World Championship to try to become a double world champion in this category.
Cal Crutchlow will steal the spotlight and Kenan will finish third in the 2009 championship. He nevertheless took his revenge by winning his second title in 2010 with three victories and thirteen podiums out of thirteen possible.
Moto2 (2010-2011) [ modifier | Modifier and code ]
He is contacted by Alain Bronec, boss of the Technomag-CIP team who runs private. He replaces the promising Shoya Tomizawa, who died. It scores eleven points in two races and stands out favorably by being well placed in Valence before falling. He ended the season in the twenty-ninth place in the Moto2 ranking. It is confirmed by Bronec for 2011 in mid-November.
The first full season of Kenan Sofuoğlu is quite complicated and his only feat is a second place at the Grand Prix of the Netherlands. He finished the season in fifteenth place with a podium and 59 points to his credit. Finally, he decides to return to the Supersport World Championship for the 2012 season with the Lorenzini by Leoni team who will have the official Kawasaki ZX6R.
Second return to supersport (2012) [ modifier | Modifier and code ]
The , his return to supersport with Kawasaki is confirmed. During the first round, in Australia, he won his first supersport victory for over a year.
