Laurent Cokelaere , born the In Drôme, is a French bass player (electric bass / acoustic, double bass). Professional since the mid -1970s, he became an essential musician on the French scene. He accompanied French artists like: Michel Fugain, Michel Sardou, Nolwenn Leroy, Alan Stivell, Maurane, Maxime Leforestier among others. He is the initiator of several groups oriented “Old School” such as Desktops, Sidji Moon and Coke Tales.

Laurent Cokelaere is from Puygiron [ first ] . He began bass in self -taught in 1972 and took technical lessons at 16 years old. In 1977-78, he left to study music and deepen the basics of his instrument at the “Berklee College of Music” in Boston in the United States. He participated in jazz projects with Éric Lelann, Francis Bourrec, Yochk’o Seffer, Ivan Jullien, Francis Lockwood, François Couturier, Robert Persi, Éric Séva, Khalil Chahine, Daniel Goyone, Jimi Drouillard, Denis Leloup, Benoît Widemann, Claude Barthélémy, Jean-Loup Longnon, Claude Salmieri [ 5 ] .

In addition, he set up or participated in various groups, such as: Polygruel (his own big band), Neffesh Music (from Yochk’o Seffer), Century (from 1986 to 1988), Minigruel, 9 Plus (with Ivan Jullien ), the big blues band, coketal (with Jacques Mercier), Cokepit, Maison Klaus (with Klaus Blasquiz, ex-Magma), Desktops (Tamla-Motown Revival), Restrictions, Apple Juice. He created, with Hervé Gourdikian, the group of atmospheric jazz-pop Sidji Moon, with whom he released several albums [ 3 ] . He is one of the creators of the Blue Stak label.
