Max Emanuel Cencic (Zagreb, 21 September 1976) is a Croatian singer. He affirms himself as a child as a white solo voice for his vocal qualities and the longevity of the vocal stamp that allows him to sing in the soprano register from 6 to 18 years. He therefore began his career of countertenor since 2001, specializing in the rediscovery of the Baroque repertoire.

Born in Croatia in 1976, Cenčić begins to sing at a very young age. Already at six years old, in 1983, he appears to Croatian television by performing in arias from Rodgers and Hammerstein in Mozart. [first] In Belgrade in 1987 he performed in concert the Spring votes by Johann Strauss (son).

Now known internationally, from 1987 to 1992 he is a solo white voice The little singers of Vienna . Among its numerous executions and recordings, there is a solo item in Symphony n. 4 by Gustav Mahler (in 1991 with Anton Nanut and the Ljubljana Radio Symphony) and in works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Georg Friedrich Händel.

He also continues beyond 1992 as a nickname in a Schubert’s CD by Lieder (1992), as an interpreter of love in the Orpheus and Euridice by Christoph Willibald Gluck and numerous other works, until 1997, due to the physiological change of voice register [2] .

He returns to the concert activity in 2001 as a counter -tenth, specializing in the settings of baroque and eighteenth -century works, as an interpreter of Gluck works, Galuppi, Haendel (Serse), Jommelli (Demoophoonte). He performs in work theaters such as Wiener Staatsoper, Theater An der Wien, Openhaus Zürich, Opéra Royal de Versailles, Bayerische Staatsoper, Staatsoper Unter Den Linden in Berlin, the Gran Teatro del Liceu in Barcelona, The Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, Paris and the Monnaie of Brussels. Concert commitments lead him to the Laeiszhalle in Hamburg, the Carnegie Hall (New York), the Barbican Center (London), the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Wiener Musikverein and the Wiener Konzerthaus, and the Tchaikovsky Hall in Moscow. In addition, he has sung in numerous international festivals, including the Salzburg Festival. He works with orchestra directors such as William Christie, René Jacobs, Ottavio Dantone, Diego Fasolis, George Petrou [3] , Emmanuelle Haïm and Riccardo Muti. His latest records include Cantati by Antonio Caldara, Antonio Vivaldi and Domenico Scarlatti.

As artistic director of Parnassus Arts Productions is responsible for the conception, supervision and execution of works of the Italian Baroque, including the rediscovery of Leonardo Vinci’s last work, Artaserse and, more recently, Arminio . In recent years he was supporting with increasing frequency of the activity of interpreter also that of director. Since September 2020 Max Emanuel Cencic has been the artistic director of the Bayreuth Baroque Opera Festival. [4]

Max Emanuel Cencic (born the in Zagreb) is a Croatian counterpatenor.

Singing from an early age, he performed in public for the first time at the age of 6. From 1987 to 1992, he was a member of the little singers of Vienna.

From 1992 to 1997 he led a first career as a soloist as a sopranist. He also participated in several opera productions: The Magic Flute (Registry an 1991 SOUSA LAZION THE SIR GOORG SOLOTI, IT REPRIZAINTATION AUE STEFERY THE VIENNOY AVEC NIHOAUS HEARNED), Orpheus from Gluck (Amor) to Konzerthaus in Vienne (1995) and Drottningholm (1996), Demophones The Jommelli (Adrasto) a Schwetzingen and Crémone Ainsi que Sieces From Handel to Copenhagen (1996).
He then withdrew before starting to sing in public in 2001, having changed his tessitura and he became counterpénor. Since then, Max Emanuel Cencic has been collaborating regularly with the greatest chefs of Baroque music: William Christie, René Jacobs, Diego Fasolis, Ottavio Dantone, Andrea Marcon, Christophe Rousset, Alan Curtis, Rinaldo Alessandrini, Jean-Christophe Spinosi, Eduardo Lopez Banzo, Konrad Junghänel, or Christopher Moulds.

He made his debut at the Théâtre de la Monnaie de Brussels (Satirino and the second fury in the staging of Herbert Wernicke of The Calisto ) in 2009 ; And the same year at the Bayerische Staatsoper (the Tamerlano of Handel-Titrelao), then to the semperoper of Dresden (Tolomeo in Julius Caesar ). Many recitals complete its season: Theater an der Wien ( ), Grand Théâtre de Genève ( ), opéra does not have of tokyo ( ), Champs-Élysées Theater in Paris ( Faramondo , with Ensemble I Barocchisti under the direction of Diego Fasolis, ). In the spring of 2010, he also made his debut at the Teatro Real in Madrid. In , he embodies the title role of Tense from Handel to the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées (and at the Théâtre de Caen), then Ruggiero in Furious Orlando de Vivaldi under the direction of Jean-Christophe Spinosi at the Nice Opera and the Lorraine National Opera.
In , he will sing at the Ambronay Festival Il Farnace De Vivaldi with Diego Fasolis and I Barocchisti, which will also appear at the same time on disc (Virgin Classics). This opera will be taken up in At the Champs-Élysées Theater.

In 2007, Max Emanuel Cencic signed an exclusivity contract with Virgin Classics; His first disc for the label dedicated to the tunes of operas from Rossini is a success (4 keys Telerama , Orpheus of the best interpreter of the Academy of the Lyric Disc). In 2008, he played the role of Sposa in the opera Il Sant’Alessio de Landi alongside Philippe Jaroussky and seven other countertenors. Directed by William Christie at the head of the flourishing arts and staged by Benjamin Lazar, the opera is a success, both on the scene and in DVD. In 2009, he exhumes Faramondo of Handel with the conductor Diego Fasolis, who also accompanies him in On a Handel operas’ tune record, “Mezzo-Soprano”.
