In 1972, Nights in White Satin suddenly reappeared in the hit-parades, selling himself much more than during his first publication in single [ the 1 ] , [ 16 ] . One of the explanations for this event is the updating of the song by a Seattle DJ. The original version of the title, lasting seven minutes and thirty-eight seconds, leaves him enough time to leave smoking during his night work. The broadcast of the song for several nights in a row reaches the auditors of the radio station, and quickly other seattle stations begin to pass it in turn. In 1979, Justin Hayward was awarded the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP) in 1979 for Nights in White Satin , because the song ranked on three different occasions on each side of the Atlantic during the previous ten years [ 30 ] . In 1995, the song was part of the list of “songs that shaped rock and roll” ( The Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll » ), established by rock and roll hall of fame [ thirty first ] . The year 1999 marks its entry into the Grammy Hall of Fame [ 32 ] . In 2009, Gilles Verlant and Thomas Caussé mentioned it in their book The perfect disco of the rock odyssey , among the “3000 classic rock songs” [ 33 ] .
