Paul Anka , born the In Ottawa, is a singer-songwriter-Canadian-American of Syro-Lebanese origin.

He is notably known for writing the words of My Way , adaptation in English of the title As per usual by Jacques Revaux and Claude François. He is the first English -speaking performer in this version, which was released in 1969, and which was popularized the same year by Frank Sinatra before being taken up by many artists.

Paul Anka was born in Canada of Syro-Lebanese parents; His father comes from Bab Touma, a Christian district in Damascus in Syria [ first ] , [ 2 ] , [ 3 ] . He is naturalized American .

Encouraged by his parents, Paul Anka developed a singer’s talent very early and recorded her first title I Confess at the age of 14.

The , he made his first television appearance in New York, in the show American Bandstand belonging to the American network ABC. He presented a song composed there for his former baby-sitter, Diana Ayoub. The song Diana has been immediate success and leads the best record sales on .

Irvin Feld  (in) , owner of a chain of record stores and producer of the show Biggest Show of Stars then hired Paul Anka for his first tour in the United States in .

In 1958, Paul signed his first visit to Algeria where he was welcomed as a king by the Castelli family which on multiple times his scenes.

Diana There remains today one of the best -selling 45 laps in the history of music with 9 million copies. Thanks to titles You Are My Destiny And Crazy Love , also classified in the 20 best sales of 1958, Paul Anka became the idol of the teenage public.

After a tour in Britain in , he produced a series of concerts with Buddy Holly in Australia in .

At the beginning of 1959, Anka began an actor career singing several songs (including Lonely Boy  (in) ) in the movie Girls Town . He also plays a role in the film The longest day In 1962, the music and song of the film he wrote The Longest Day which will be an international success.

He continues commercial successes with the titles Put Your Head On My Shoulder , Puppy Love (written for Annette Funicello), It’s Time To Cry , And My Home Town , all classified in the top ten sales of the year.

Having reached the majority, he performed in the Casinos de Las Vegas: the Sahara Hotel in 1959 and the Copacabana in 1960.

His popularity with the young audience decreasing, he signed in 1962 with the RCA Victor label, then at Buddah Records in 1971. He finally returned to success by signing in 1974 at United Artists Record, a company known for his conventional style. His first title, (You’re) Having My Baby , a duo with Odia Coates, becomes number 1 of sales (under pressure from emerging feminist movements, the title is modified in (You’re) Having Our Baby ).
Two other duos, also with Odia Coates, will be classified in the best ten sales.

In 1975, he recorded the jingle The Times of Your Life For the Kodak brand. The advertising campaign is a success and a long version of The Times of Your Life is produced in 45 rpm.

Paul Anka also composed for other artists: the title It Doesn’t Matter Anymore pour Buddy Holly, She’s a Lady For Tom Jones.

In 1969, Paul Anka adapted the tube in English As per usual by Claude François, who becomes My Way . The same year, the title was taken over by Frank Sinatra and became a huge success. Paul Anka will resume another title of Claude François, Nothing just a joint address , who will become Do I love you .

Paul Anka also composed the credits of the Johnny Carson’s Tonight Show . In 1963, he composed I’m watching you For Sylvie Vartan, offering her her first title in English, a title he will interpret as a duet with her on American television two years later. In 1979, he made up and produced an album for Mireille Mathieu entitled Mireille Mathieu Sings Paul Anka For the American version and Mireille Mathieu sings Paul Anka For the French version whose words are adapted by Eddy Marnay. He sings three duos with Mireille You and I/Toi et moi , After you/as before And Bring the Wine In these two albums. These albums have been distributed worldwide.

In the early 1980s, he co-wrote the titles with Michael Jackson Love Never Felt So Good And This Is It . These titles, which will not be exploited during the lifetime of the “king of pop” (but on posthumous albums from 2009) will however be exploited by Johnny Mathis (in 1984 for Love Never Felt So Good ) and singer Safire (1991 for This Is It under the title I Never Heard ).

He returned to his Lebanese origins in 1999 by performing closed at the Beirut Forum.

In France, he is invited to sing with the students of the Star Academy 5 in 2005, the Star Academy 6 in 2006 and the Star Academy 7 in 2008. More recently, he appeared on France 2 in the program Employed evening outfit , a special program in tribute to charming singers from the 1950s.

He is the father of five, Alexandra, Anthea, Amanda, Alicia and Amelia and a son, Ethan (born in 2006).
